I disagree with this blog. I respect the individuals opinion but disagree that it is a good idea to carry a 1911-pattern pistol with the hammer down on a live round.
If this is something that you are considering please visit www.1911forum.com and search the subject.

Thanks,
Teddy is a fine trigger man, but so opinionated that he has been thrown off of or himself quit in disgust from every board he has tried. I got censored at sigforum for just mentioning that I had a P220 that he had done a nice trigger job on.
Reminds me of my own local gunsmith.
I am glad to see he now has his own soapbox.
Condition 2 for a 1911 is a touchy subject, but it DOES have its applications. I'll have to read what Teddy has to say before I agree or disagree with him or j_a.
Edit to add: Teddy says that HE carried a 1911 with hammer down on a loaded chamber because he is lefthanded. Probably does not trust the fragile ambi safeties now available. I learned and used the Condition 2 carry for several years, before I realized I had been taught by a southpaw like Teddy and did not need to do without a thumb safety.
It CAN be done, but is a bit tricky and not necessary in most cases, but is not bad, bad, bad.

Under limited conditions, there may well be a place for condition 2 carry. In gearing up for certain cop operations, I used to lower the hammer of my Commander and stuff it into my left-side waistband, and do the standard cocked-and-locked thing with a Government Model in stong side holster.
The major hazard of hammer-down-loaded-chamber carry with an SA autopistol is that attaining the condition is a two-handed operation, with undivided concentration. Plenty of room for mishap if distracted.
After reading Bullshot's initial post above, I went to the site and read the whole thing. I cannot agree with everything Mr. Jacobson writes, but, taking his claims of experience and longevity at face value, I'd say he has a certain historical perspective, and has earned the right to his personal opinions.:p
Best,
Johnny

I liked titled "My favorite handguns" and "Real Street Guns". The section on "Handguns for Women" is very good too.

Comes across as an opinionated "old cuss". Agree with some of what he wrote and disagree with some. I suspect he would say the same about me.:)

I held a somewhat low opinion of Teddy Jacobson before I read his blog. Now I hold a really low opinion of him.

blog = web-log: an open-book diary on web site; esp. such a diary which includes comments on and links to current information on other sites.

Thanks shu, I was just about to ask just what exactly a "blog" is. Keep hearing the term but didn't know how to define it. The only thing I new for sure is that 'Blog' is different from 'Bling"

Shu...thank you for clearing the term up for me.....I appreciate it. I'm not sure I've been using it correctly in the past...I thought it referred to perhaps eating too much Cheese Samiches and getting a little "blogged up....." I'll be more careful in the future....Thanks again...........Zeb
