The sniper variant of the M14 is designated the M21.

I'd say either an M21 or an M1A. Forgive me if I am in error. Pleeze

Doesn't look like an honest to God M21. My guess is a gussied up M1A/M14.

Course what do I know. (HINT: Not very much)

Definately not an M1A -- has the auto parts on there, but (I think) with the lock installed, not the actual selecter switch. Don't recall enough of the specs on honest-to-Gosh M21s, but I'm gonna guess a rack M14 someone glassed.

Is it just the light, or is there a wierd hole in the end of his gas plug?

Yeah, I saw DA-SWITCH as well. No idea if it is blocked or not.

It's not an M1A; the army's got no need for reproductions of guns it already has. :D

The selector is definitely locked. The hole in the gas plug could be a Schuster vented gas plug. If so, that's probably not a rack grade gun. Is the soldier holding it a sniper? I thought they had to have perfect vision.

That's M14-DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle), used by USMC

Is that a 10 power scope with big target turrets?

It looks like the Bushnell elite 3200 I have on my ar-varmint rifle.

Dr. Rob,
Can you clarify your statement re the helmet being 2 sizes too small?

The helmet is the MICH/ ACH, and is 11% smaller around the rim, among gross improvements in impact and ballistic protection, lighter weight and the ability to take COMMs.

Yes, M14 DMR. Those might be goggles rather than glasses. Lots of sand over there you know.
