A couple years ago I saw a listing for a 4 gauge flintlock by Stoeger, designed to shoot a patched round ball, and called the elephant gun. The book said it was only produced for 2 years. Has anyone heard or seen of one?

I have one. It's one of the ugliest guns I've ever seen. It's cobbled together for the African Trade (or goofy Americans who got duped into buying a gun "built around antique locks from the Napoleonic Wars). Unlike the drawing in their catalog, the lock is a back action lock action that has been adapted to flintlock. It also has a hooked buttplate that is more fitting to a schutzen gun or target rifle than a field gun.

It's smoothbore that would take a sorry second to dear ole Bess or a Charleville.
