How many mags per gun should I have? I understand that if I'm going to be doing steel plate matches, I'll probably want to have 5 or more, but what about for regular range guns? 2?
I guess now's the time to pick up all of your junk 10 rounders, my being in Kalifornia and all...

Yeah! What the greasemonkey said. You can never have too many.
I have five for my USP. Two for carry and three for range work. I would like to have couple more loaded up with hollowpoints and keep them within easy reach at home and a few more in the car. A few more for the range wouldn't hurt either.

I average 3 per pistol. Some more, some less.......
I also shoot with the same mags I carry to ensure proper operation.

If you own a bunch of magazine feeders, like me, you will quicky get tired of having 15 or even 5 spare magazines for every firearm you own.

You should at least have four mags for each gun you own. I do this so I can rotate my mags. I load the first two mags and keep the last two for use the next month. But you really cannot have enough mags.

For gun games, I usually carry 7, in all divisions ( I don't shoot revolver or open gun), except in IDPA, of course. For social work, I carry 2 full mags(Keltec P11).
I always make sure I have at least 4 mags for each gun I own. But like what's been said, the more the better.

i have over 10 mags for each of my regular carry guns. two might be fine for carry, if they are full cap mags...:banghead:
in CA, a full load would be one in the gun and 4 exrtas. i usually have 2 complete sets, to switch off for carry and a couple of extras in case one goes down
some guns are know to be hard on mags...or was that, having soft mags...like the original sig 220 mags. the 220 used to crack their lips of their mags. i now have 20+ ACT-Mags for my 220

For my pistols I keep 4 or 5 for each one. I only have the two mags that came with my Kahr though. depending on how you look at it, I have ten mags for my carry gun (two OM 1911s, five for each, carry one at a time) and 20 or so for a GM (4 wislons, one chip ten rounder, and about fifteen el-cheapo GI mags from ammoman, two GMs, one works, the other is an AMT, lol).
I have ten mags for my AR15 and Thompson (plus the drum I never use). Two 20s and eight 30s for each. I keep one 20 empty at all times in case my other one decides it needs work (I cant close the door on my gunlocker with a 30 rounder in either one, the main reason I have 20 round mags).
Ive got my eye on some toolboxes that are going to be in the next employee sale. I know if I get any of them, I will prbably have two drawers full of mags, I cant fill them up yet (maybe one) but I'm not finished buying mags yet either.

I have probably 50 mags or so, but they all interchange between my 1911's and commanders.:)
As for my carry guns, I only keep 2 around per gun.
All my long guns don't need mags.

How many mags per gun should I have? After reading Unintended Consequences, I subscribed to the 50-100% rule. Spend about 50-100% on magazines as you did on the gun itself, for each gun.

After reloading, I'd rather bring all loaded mags to the range as opposed to boxing the ammo and loading mags at the range.
I'm lazy so I need to buy even more mags. ;)

45Auto: I hear ya. ;) Its kind of funny to see the expression on some guys when I get to the range with my 1911 and have 20+ mags loaded and ready to go.

I try to keep around 6, but I only have 4 for the P7M8 at the moment.
I'm going to get blue basepads for my Beretta 92 mags so I can discriminate between the carry mags and the range mags. Right now all of them are beat to heck :o

If it is a gun I ever carry, I think 5 is a good minimum. That's what I try to shoot for...
If it's purely a range gun... I guess a couple would be fine, but as I tend to stick with CZs and 1911s, I have... more than a couple. :D

As far as I'm concerned, any pistol I have less than three mags for is broken and needs to be fixed. ;)
Some is good, more is better, and too much is just enough. :D

Q: "How many mags per gun should I have?"
A: As many as you think you need. Then double that. And add one for each dependent.
Seriously I believe in having a minimum of five per firearm. Where you have multiple firearms that share mags (such as Colt .45 autos) You "may" get by with less, but why scrimp.
I would probably consider 100 per firearm as overkill.
Your opinion may differ.

some of us in CA got carried away when they voted in a mag capacity limit. it was get as many as you'll EVER need, because you might not ever get another chance.
that's how i ended up with 20-30 for my ar15, ak47, ak74 and fal. i even have full cap mags for guns i haven't purchased yet. nope you can never have too many

5 is usu. enough for most gun games + 2 always loaded w/ HD ammo = 7 total

I've always tried to have half a dozen for my handguns, 20 for my EBRs.
