I semi-recently purchased the Browning 1885 Low Wall reproduction in 22 Hornet. It has the octagon barrel. Been searching all over the net and catalogs I have, and can't seem to find the period-correct front sight for this bugger.

If it's out there, where/what is it? What kinda butcherin do I have to do to put it on? There's no tapped holes in the front of mine to work with.

No suggestions for whiz-bang gadgetry front sights please. I'm looking to be period-correct.

Where did you get the rifle? I'd like one in 45Colt, but I don't want it $900 worth.

Brownells may be able to set you up too. www.brownells.com. I take it that there is *not* a dovetail cut at the front of the barrel. Bummer, one will have to be milled.

I have a Low Wall Hornet, and it is a neat, fun, accurate rifle.:D

But why exactly are you worried about 1800's correctness with a Japanese made, glossy stocked rifle chambered for a round that wasn't introduced until the 1930's?:confused:

Well tex, 'cuz it's an octagon-barreled gun, single shot, "gold" trigger, low wall (read: a real pain to load).

Sure, she's got plastic stocks, "Made in Japan" stamped on the barrel, and there probably wasn't anything like a 22 Hornet during the original production years, but the whole thing was made to fool the eye. It was made to look and feel like the real thing, but it's built a little better and will last a heck of a lot longer, not to mention it's available in modern chamberings.

I think a set of correct sights for it will only enhance it's looks, and it will definitely make it funner to shoot than using this damn scope. Scopes are fine for night poachers, but I think they ruin the game for day huntin or target shootin.
