Hi All,

For those folks that have had experience with the more current versions of both these models, how does the accuracy and recoil compare between the two? Thanks in advance!

I've got a 5" S&W model 629-5 Classic that I shoot
quite often. Recoil and muzzle blast is not unmanageable
but then again, I rarely shoot hot loads in this revolver;
as I mostly stick to .44 Special type handloads.

Sorry, but I cant address the issues concerning the 6.5"
barrel model?

Best Wishes,

I like the handling qualities of a 5". The extra 1.5" of sight radius is nice to have, but anything else is just splitting hairs.

In 629's I've owned the 6.5" Power Port, the 6" half lug, the 4" Mountain Gun, and a 3" Lew Horton.

The one I've kept is the 5" full lug.

I have the 6 1/2" Power Port 629. I prefer it to the 5" for hunting since it is tapped for a scope, and I believe the extra 1 1/2 " barrwl length adds to the accuracy at longer ranges.

I don't own one as yet, but my choice would be a difficult one. I love the classic styling of the 6" half lug, but I also appriciate the feel and balance of my full lug 686's. I do not like ported guns of any kind, so that wouldn't be a choice for me at all.

I had a Classic with a 8.375" barrel and had it customized; cut to 5" and ported. I didn't realize that I was setting myself up to never be able to find a holster for it.

I got a holster for my 5" 629 from Dillon's. http://dillonprecision.com/

Another source is El Paso Saddlery. http://www.epsaddlery.com/.
