Just picked up a Yugo SKS from SOG. This baby is pretty much caked with the cosmoline. I was wondering if someone could please walk a SKS rookie through the field strip procedure so I can make sure it is compelety clean before I shoot it.
thanks in advance,
SirPorl

It's pretty much the Bible on the SKS.

Thanks guys. I did manage to stumble on the military surplus site after I posted this. I will check out all sites mentioned. Thanks again.

I sprayed all the metal parts with carb cleaner. It seems to cut the cosmo off real good. Make sure you get the bolt clean. Don't want it going full auto, now.

If the firing pin doesn't rattle freely when you shake the bolt, don't load the rifle. Soak the bolt in solvent until the pin does rattle when the bolt is shaken. If it doesn't, the rifle can fire when you chamber a round.
