I have read references to heavy barreled Security Sixes but don't think I have ever seen one. I checked out the various " blue books" for guns and could find no mention or differentiation. If anyone has one of these guns in 4" I would sure appreciate a look-see: could you post a picture?

Thanks.

Sorry I can't post a pic 'cause I no longer have the gun (one of the few I regret selling). Just before the GP-100's came out I had a heavy barrel Security-Six. Really nice gun. I thought that the GP would be even better so I sold the SS and bought a GP. Really wish I had the Security-Six now.

What wheelgunner100 said.

In the late '80's I had a heavy barrel Security Six, which was also known as the Skeeter Skelton special, as he suggested the variation to RUGER.

I traded it for something I also didn't keep. I REALLY wish I had it back.

I thought that what happened was that the standard barrels on the 4" and 6" SSes got heavier over time. So, you couldn't order a heavy barrel variation on the regular barrel, it just came that way. Does that sound right?

If you hang on a day or two, I know someone who's got a late Sec Six. Maybe we could catch a photo and post it.

The Heavy Barrel I had was a different model, and was marked accordingly on the factory box.

1)I have a pair of "Stainless'(Consecutively numbered)Ruger Security-Sixes, that are of the first, style of the heavy barreled Security-Sixes. These(First issued)heavy barrels, were introduced in the June, 1979 issue of Shooting Times, magazine(The article begins on page 48)and, both a four-inch heavy barrel(Blue & stainless)are shown on the cover, in color!

2)These first heavy barrels, almost appeared to have no taper at all(Unless you really looked carefully, to see a very slight taper)! At a "Glance" these barrels looked to be staight(Like a normal "Bull barrel")!

3)Sometime(Later on)Ruger made these heavy barrels, even heavier(Which gave them an obvious barrel taper, that looked to be almost as much taper as the original(Non-heavy)skinny barrel had!

4)In the Ruger catalog, the heavy barreled Security-Sixes, were always marked with an H(Whether in a four-inch or a Six-inch, barrel length)added into the model number(And, a letter "T" was added, in the event these guns had target grips, in wood)!

5)I will soon, try to post some pictures here of my 1979 vintage(First year)four-inch, heavy barreled(NIB)Security-Sixes, for your viewing pleasure?

This one dates to about 86/87, the barrel is fairly heavy, but you can measure a very slight taper.
