Due to financial problems last year,i was forced to sell off almost all my weapons(wrong i know, but had to do something),Things are better again, and i've started rebuilding the collection.
A couple of 12 gauges,a sks,and a 357 so far.
In todays world, would you concentrate on SHTF,or go ahead and buy the more expensive,(takes longer to save up for)and always wanted.

Matt1911,

I was in the same situation you were. Sold a bunch of guns to pay bills. Then next month came and so did the bills. Had nothing to sell. Had no more guns to spare. Had to say to hell with the bills, enough is enough.

Since then I have acquired a few new guns. No replacements for those sold, but other stuff I wanted. Plus I have concentrated on getting modification and repairs done to those I still have.

I couldn't care less about TSHTF senarios, I consider them to be emotional scams to make you want to go buy stuff you don't need. Kind of like the Y2K scams. Most of us live in big city areas and won't be able to make it to the boonies in any event. A lot of guns and supplies are gonna just be an albatross on your back.
Thats why you never see me post on any SHTF threads. To many variables, and most of us will be woke up by stormtroopers in the middle of the night and forcibly evac'ed to a shelter before we can do anything about it. UNARMED of course.
TSHTF proponents need not flame me on this, JMHO.

I would concentrate on replacing those you want back, and buying those that you want. Your reasons are yours.
What ever you do, enjoy them as much as you can.
And remember, once you sell off you possessions to pay bills, what are you going to sell next month to pay bills?

If I had no guns and had to start over, I'd acquire guns in roughly this order:

A P32 or new 380 version
A 12 Gauge Shotgun
Some economical bolt rifle, probably a No 4 Mk 1
A 1911 in 45ACP
A quality scoped rifle in 25-06, 270 or similar
A 4" 357 Magnum revolver
Then a smaller bore rifle, a 22lr pistol and rifle then go from there.

First three are cheap enough and cover many bases for less than the cost of just one quality 1911.

What will you use most? For most of us that's a pistol that we carry every day. If you hunt birdies, get a shotgun which may do double duty as a HD weapon. If you live in the Land of Many Bears of the hairy-chested West and mosey about a lot in a big hat, best get a rifle. It depends.

I was in a similar situation several years ago. Sold off everything but my P7M8. Now, if I could I'd replace my HK rifles :( My suggestion is to buy back whatever you miss the most or guns that are one any kind of endangered species list.
You have a good start...SHTF guns. Now you can work on the "collection" :D

One gun I know I'm lacking (and have been for some time) is a good quality revolver. If I could, I'd buy a 4" Colt Python. I could use that for SD for myself, or my wife could use it as well. If that wasn't available, a S&W 686 would be my next choice.

If all goes as expected, I'll probably pick up a Browning Hi Power this week, from a customer who bought it in an estate sale. I've wanted a good 9mm for some time, and have gone from the Hi Power to a Sig 226, then back again. My final decision is to eventually get both, and it looks like I'll be getting a good deal on this Browning.

Other than those choices, I feel pretty good about what I currently own. The only changes I would have made along the way, is not to have done just what you did-sell some guns to pay the bills. You're right-the bills kept coming and the only difference was I no longer had some nice firearms. :( geegee

Let's see...

You've got some shotguns, a semiauto rifle, and a .357 wheelgun.

Next on the list would be a 1911, a wondernine, or a .22 rifle, right?

guns that are underpriced and can be sold for a profit if needed. There are a lot of bargains out there that can be had at a good deal. Luck counts too. Shop the flea markets for unpapered deals...chris3

I'd say that the acquisition of a good quality .22 rimfire rifle would be a good bet. Something in the order of a CZ .22 rifle or a 10/22.

And maybe planning for a 'survival' scenario as opposed to a SHTF scenario might be more worthwhile?

Which rifles/handguns have YOU always wanted?? The pre-ban stuff perhaps?;)
