Who has an AK-74?

I just wanted to know who here has one and what your experiances have been with them,

I just bought a Romanian CUR 2 (fully Romanian, no US parts) chambered in 5.45x39 and I am beyond happy with it. It shoots like a dream and it seems to have fixed most of the small problems the 47 had.

Viva la AK74!

I have one, don't have a AK-47. The AK-74 is very low recoil and very fun. Though I did have one jammed case possibly due to firing out of battery, though I am not sure about it, since the case was about the normal size and not bulged.

SAR-2 here.

Inherent accuracy is head and shoulders above 7.62X39.

Hell on metal gongs, though. ZZZZip...

I would really like to play with one.
I am not a real big AK guy, but this intrigues me considering the fact that the USSR adopted it years ago: choosing it over the AK47.
But, I really don't know much about them.
I would love to know the details: what bullet does it shoot ? At what velocity ? What kind of accuracy are you getting on legitimate paper targets ?

No American parts?

Pre-import ban, I'd imagine.

Post Ban (992) They have a thumbhole stock.

SOME of them accept regular AK mags and some of them take single stack 10rnd mags. Not sure which is most common.

Yeager pegged it exactly.

The one I bought came in before the Clinton executive order that banned imports, and therefore I was lucky enough to get one that has all Romanian parts without any of the US compliance parts (I'm not bagging on US stuff, but some companies have used cheapo parts for compliance). I'm not totally keen on the thumbhole stock, but it really isn't THAT much difference between a normal pistol grip and the thumbhole stock, so I guess I can live with it.

The 74 fires the 5.45x39 round which is similiar to the .223 round, I think. I don't have any of the tables near me, but I think they are close, but just thinking about the looks of the round, the projectile is very long, and very thin. The round gives almost no kick which makes aimed shots possible without extensive re-adjusting.

I posted in your other thread too, but I've got a pair of AK74 variants, a SAR2 and a homebuilt Bulgarian '74 with the Plum furniture.

Love em, but I also love the standard 7.62x39 AK too...

Here's a pic of my homebuild, I just got a matching plum pistol grip this week (had a almost pink looking bulgy grip originally)

Here's a pic of my SAR2 on the bottom, my SAR1 on the top:

PS- I'm in the process of configuring a Saiga-12 to look identical to my '74's.

Tomak and Mak Owner - Those are Beautiful!!!

Really, those are some amazingly slick looking AK's. I really dig the plum mags and furniture and you guys have some amazing gear on them. I have thought about getting rails (maybe Ultimak) or something to put on one of my AK's (not sure if the 74 or 47) but I have been leaning towards waiting until I get my Romak III in a few months and then go and buy another 74 and play around with furniture and stuff with that one.

I really like the stuff from Tantal's site ( http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/ ) but it seems like the stuff on there from Russia gets too expensive too fast.

Where did you get the gear on your 74's?

I have a SAR 2 and it is one of my favorite rifles. It is more fun to shoot that the SAR 1 I have. Less recoil. Its just pop, pop, pop.

I bought a Bulgarian AK-74 from JOEKEN firearms a couple of years ago along with a HESSE receiver. I put the kit together and am quite pleased with the results. It is my favorite AK and fits right in with my others, being Romanian , Hungarian and another favorite, the Russian Saiga. The 5.45x39 ammo is a blast to shoot. AK-74,the way to go.

Thx! I got my Romy sidefolders from NoveltyGuns, the '74s are from ORF, bayonet & AR-M1 flash suppressors from K-Var, Znich AK-74 tactical lights from Freedom Optics, PK-AS sights from Tantal, SAW AK grips from Tapco and extended mag release from Flash Distributing. Yeah, it does add up but I think I'm finally close to my personal ideal for a CQB carbine!

SAR 2 is one of my favorites. I put the Global Trades blond furniture on mine and had AK-USA add the AK74 brake. It looks as good as it shoots.

Does that flash hider allow mounting of an original AK-74 bayonet?

I fired an Arsenal Inc in 5.45 and loved it

I'll be purchasing one in the next month. Black furniture and a stamped reciever. I can't wait.

Yes it does! That flash hider (very effective, btw) is for the Bulgarian 7.62x39 AR-M1 and fits the standard threaded 24mm front sight base. Just unscrew the AK-74 brake and screw on the AR-M1 flash hider.

No one carries much of it locally here either. Thank goodness for the Internet and gunshows.

My SAR 2 is my favorite rifle.

Has anyone tried the new Arsenal Inc. AK74 model SLR105 (R)? These things are just out and they look great! I plan to buy one, but I am not sure whether the quality is as good as their forged ones like SAM7 and SAM5? Is ther anything on this model not very satisfying?

Is this model worth to buy? How much is the store price?

yeah the Romanian '74s are pretty cool; only reason I didn't pick one up when I could have was (at the time) lack of magazines (gotta love those orange bakelite mags!) and lack of milsurp ammo... *sigh*lack of ammo was the same reason I never picked up one of the old DDR Steyr type 'wall-guns' that Davidson's had at the time... Tamara has one and I'm still jealous.

No body will ship here either . At best we can get it shipped to Seatle and get it put on a boat up here for an extra$60+ a case . It just isn't worth the trouble realy . There hasn't been a gunshow here on island in the last 9 years that I have lived here .
