A burning question that I am sure EVERYBODY is losing sleep over.
;)
No wonder "COLT" was so popular.

that's an easy one, since I speak 4 languages, but it's impossible to explain to an Americain since your pronunciation is completely differant than the French, you would need phonetic symbols on your keybord to explain it, but anyway, I'll give it a try: lu - foo - sjeu.

i was born, raised and live in south louisiana. it is Luh-FO-shew. and my name is gauthier. pronounced go-chay. of course, there are families that will pronounce names differently because when they settled here hundreds of years ago they did not want to seem as outsiders, so they pronounced their french names with a more anglicized emphasis. it all depended upon what part of louisiana your family settled in.

I lose sleep wondering how pinfire ammo was transported without frequent Another great French idea that just didn't work out right... maybe that's why nobody knows how to pronounce his name??? :D
Seriously, I am of French descent so my poke at them is in jest, but I'd like to take a real poke at that idiot Jacq Chirac if he would kindly bring his ugly mug into striking distance. You know something? If they get their mammaries into a wringer once again I will almost bet we will come and help them out again. The ungrateful ****** :cuss:

There was this pilgrim at a local gunshow who was a Lefaucheux collector. He had a bloody table full of them old pinfires.
I asked him the very question posed by this thread and he maintained that it is pronouced:
LA......FA......SHOW

It's French, so it must be pronounced, " I SURR-END-ER." ;)
My vote goes to "luh-foe-show"

Sorry badgerr, collector or not, I think he's pronouncing it wrong. The French le is never pronounced la. I agree with agony on luh-foe-show.
I was trying to find a sound in English that is like the French le, but I couldn't. Using more common, to us, French words: 'le' sounds like the 'leu' in "sacre bleu"; 'fau' sounds like 'faux' as in "faux pas"; and 'cheux' sounds like 'chau' as in "chauvinist".
