I have been thinking a buying a new semi-auto.

My question:

Which available new high-quality 9mm semi-auto on the market has the BEST and LOWEST PRICE pre-ban mags available in the after-market?

I have heard that the pre-ban Glock mags are expensive and hard to find.

What other high-quality 9mm semi-autos have a good availability of pre-ban mags at reasonable prices?:neener:

Hi-Power or CZ.

Just as in a wheelie gun, the number of rounds available has no correlation with making the gun any more accurate.

I don't know the CZ line well, but a new Hi-Power can use the excellent 15 rnd and 17 rnd KRD South African mags. They sell at www.cdnninvestments.com for about $20 ea.

Hard to imagine a better combination of a great design, great economics and low-cost mags.

Man, the amount of praise for the CZ has me wondering that maybe I shoud give one a serious look. But, since I don't have the experience w/ the CZ, I'm recommending the Beretta 92fs.

Happy shooting, you really can't go wrong with any of the better known eurotrash 9mms,;) Beretta, BHP, CZ, SIG, Walther, HK, and yes, even the Glocks. It really boils down to which one fits you the best and what kind of firing system you want to have as all of them are stone reliable.

Glock 17. Forget the hi-caps. For the price of 1 hi-cap 17 rds you can get 2 or 3 (10) rd mags. In the long run 2 (10) rd mags = 20 rds. 1 hi-cap is only 17 rds. You carry 2 spare reload instead of 1.

Ruger pre-bans aren't bad. I picked up a couple PMI 17-rd pre-ban's for my KP95 the other day for $20 each, worked fine.

I'm not trying to be rude, but if I'm buying something as big as a G17, it's gonna be loaded with at least 18 rounds. 10 rounders are cheap for practice, but there is just something about carrying 11 rounds in a pistol which was designed to hold 18. If you were to load the pistol to capacity and carry it with 1 10 rounder +1, and carry 2 10 round spares, you'd have 32 rounds of 9mm on hand. If I was going to go to the trouble of carrying 2 spare mags, they'd be 17 rounders. 18 in the pistol plus 2 spare 17 rounders on the belt is a lot of firepower(52 rounds). That's a whole box of ammo! I'd never personally carry that much, but if you are gonna carry 2 spares.............

NFML mags can be had for $50-60. I can't think of any reason not to buy at least a few if you are gonna carry, or use the G17 for home or personal protection.

If you want CHEAP "Hi-Cap" mags, the BHP or a variant would be the better choice. "Hi-Caps" are cheap and very plentiful for the BHP and it's clones. I have a FEG PJK-9HP which is pretty nice for something that only cost $250. If this was to be the only auto I was going to buy I'd get the Browning version. Last week the local shop had FNs for about $500-$550.

We've given you some ideas, you just need to go try em' out, because no matter what WE say, you are the one who needs to be satisfied.

I would ask you "the best for whom? and the best at what?"

The guns mentioned are excellent choices, but I would try and talk someone out of buying a certain gun just to get larget magazines.

If the gun does not suit you and you cannot shoot it well, it is not going to matter what the capacity is.

I would rather have my 8+1 shot 1911 than a 20 shot Glock in a gun fight. Why? Because I know I can hit with my 1911 and only hits count.

If all you want to do is make a lot of noise and go through a lot of ammo, then go by price.

If you want a serious gun that is suited to personal protection, get one that fits you first, then worry about capacity.

CZ factory mags are made by MecGar, cheap and very good quality. Forget that for a moment and consider the CZ pistol itself, I chose mine over Glock and Beretta. Easily one of the best pistols in the world no one knows about.

Can't get too much cheaper mags than for the Hi-Power. CZ comes next, the models for reg-caps you should go for in CZ are the 75 series or the 85 series. The 85 is the ambidexterious version of the 75. Check out www.czusa.com (http://www.czusa.com) for the models.
