How do these to cartridges compare in the real world.
Felt recoil in similar pistols?
Pressures?
etc...etc...etc...?

They are probably close to the same, but based on ammo and gun availability and cost, I like the .40 better, although the GAP may have it's merits for making smaller double stack 45s out of, even though there havn't been any released yet.

Pressures of the 40 are 35,000 psi, the 45GAP about 22,000 [like a 45acp +P ] I don't know how long the 45GAP will be around but certainly the 40 will be around a long time since it has been so well adapted by the police. Can't say about the recoil. In performance the 40 is like the 45 acp, a fine cartridge.

I like the balence of power and capacity I get with the .40 S&W. I don't think you're gaining much per hit going to 45 in either ACP or GAP and I generally prefer the feel of the guns that the .40 is chambered in. In particular, I like CZs.
There are rumors about CZ releasing some GAP pistols, but I'll stick with the horde of 40s I have now.

Well, I'm currently about as happy with my CZ PCR in 9mm as I could imagine being with an alloy DA/SA pistol. But I would buy one in 45GAP if one were available. I don't see it going quite the way of the dodo bird anytime soon and I don't shoot enough to require 20,000 cases anyway. If it looked like it was going to disappear, I'd buy up 3,000 rounds of brass and I'm sure that would last me a good long time. I think a 10+1 round PCR or P-01 in 45GAP would be an excellent platform though I'd prefer a DAO pull in about the 6 or 7 lb range.
I also think the larger poly Kahr (TP9) would be a good candidate for GAP treatment.

the future of the .45 GAP remains to be seen and there are currently limited ammo choices. both the .40 and the GAP push 180 grains to about 900 fps so thats pretty comparable but the .40 can be had in several flavors from 135 grain sizzlers to 200 grain wad cutters and lots in between. on top of that, .40 plinking ammo is cheaper, at least for now. if it were up to me i'd go with a .40 for now and see how the .45 GAP pans out over the next year or two.

I think the .45 GAP is a joke and will not last. It offers zero advantage over any of the various cartridges that are already available. When it's all said and done it's still just a handgun cartridge. They are all poor stoppers, period.
