The local newsapaper did a special report on gun control and ownership in NYS. The articles are interesting and there's also some very good data contained within.

I do find it fascinating that the article only notes the RATES of firearm use in crime in comparing NY and Montana. They do not mention the difference in overall violent crime rates.

the overall violent crime rates are in the Gun Crime Rates by State chart.

The per 100,000 rates are 516 for NY and 352.4 for Montana.

The violent crime rate in DC is just mind boggling.

Interesting that the charts on attitudes towards permits and so on only go back to the 70's, and not earlier.

I think had they gone back to the 50's or earlier, some interesting things would be revealed.

I think the articles were pretty balanced..as surprise for the Times Union.I wrote an email to the author of 2 of them and he wrote back.He said he's not a gun owner,but hung out with some to prepare for the articles.An actual responsable,thinking reporter...THAT should be reported:D
