Sounds like you got yourself a couple of interesting rifles! Not too bad. Broke soon-to-be-college student here, so I am jealous of you! :)
Me? I'm a 6.5mm fan, and I really like the .260 Remington for my uses.

W.Va., if your 700's are anything like the one I bought used (mid-80's vintage), they use a long throat. I loaded up some 140 grain Hornady boat tailed soft points and seated them out to .050 from the lands, and my groups went from 2 inches down to 3/4 inches. The handloads look funny, because the crimping groove looks like its nearly 1/4 inch from the case mouth, but it sure works. Was using a middle load of H4831 SC and CCI primers. This old girl is hot on it and I have never had a rifle shoot this close on the first hand load. Hope yours are at least as good! Lots of the people I hunt with on our deer lease finally got tired of all the flash and blast of a 7mm rem mag and rediscovered what a long range delight a 270 can be.

Back when DuPont IMR cost about $2 a pound and Hodgdon was first getting into the powder business, he had some sort of 4831 that was just dirt cheap. With a 130-grain bullet, I just filled the case and compressed the load. Around one MOA with a K4, in an old Sears&Sawbuck bolt action...:) Late 1963, I guess. Put some hurt on a few Bambis with it.
You might free-float the forearms, and maybeso shim, and see if that helps your groups.

IMR 4831 (58grains) pushing a 130 grain bullet is what the 270 loves. Try seating the bullet just off the lans of a clean barrel from a steady bench and rest. Without a sturdy platform from which to shoot who knows what a rifle can do?
