Hello All,

in case anyone besides me has been looking for .217 Berdan Primers, I finally found some online! SpecialtyAmmo (http://www.specialtyammo.com) has them for around $80.00/case if anyone is interested.

Just thought I'd pass this along.

Ed

Welcome to THR and thanks for the info. I don't plan on reloading Berdan but the Green primers definately interest me. Although I know a lot of people don't like them I've had good luck with PMC products and I'll have to keep an eye out for these locally at the shows.

The Berdan primers are not that much more expensive than the Boxer, which is surprising. I wonder if that many people will be buying them now that they are available for about the same price? It still is more involved to remove the spent primer. I had one of the RCBS Berdan removal units and it worked great......I sold it when I found out the primers were a specialty item and way more expensive than the Boxer primers.

Those non-toxic ones sound great......too bad they cost so much more. It will be nice to see them become more popular and hopefully cheaper. May be worth the extra cost for indoor use.....assuming your shooting alone.

The Berdan primers are the only ones not listed as "Non-Corrosive" So are they corrosive, or does nobody know?

I called PMC and asked that very question. They stated that they were non-corrosive, and said they would correct the website error.

I bought a case of the green primers as well, figure it cant hurt to try them.

Great. Just Great. I've been tossing my milsurp Berdan primed .303 all this time.:)

Regular priming tools will suffice to seat these, right?

lee n field,

IF you have a particularly loose setup for large pistol or rifle primers (0.210 diameter, nominal) you might be lucky.

Otherwise, you'll have to make some modifications. As many(but not all) modern reloading rigs follow de facto standard originated in RCBS equipment years back I'll point you to a page on Huntington's (http://www.huntingtons.com/PrimingAcces.html) website that gives a simple, practical way to correctly cap Berdan brass. Look for the Berdan primer seater stuff about halfway down the page.

$52 for the decapping tool. Another $75 or so for a special ram prime die and associated bits. I'm thinking it's not worth it.
