Is this red dot too high? (Ruger MKII)

Just got the rings today and put it on. Looks a little high to me but i've seen some others with red dots and scopes about the same. Is this high enough to cause problems? I got the rings used, but if it would make a difference i could try and switch to lows i guess.
I know the solow mounts would be a lot lower, but i'd like to keep this base/ring system if possible, at least for now.

Too high and too far forward. The SoLows will get you lower and further back for better balance.
That said, being high is not as bad at you might think. For example, if your sight is 1 1/2" above the bore line, and you zero your Mark II at 50 Yds with high-velocity rounds, then at 25 Yds the point of impact will be about the same. If you zero at 50 Yds with standard velocity rounds, then the POI will be about 0.3 inches above the point of aim.
The biggest problem I found with a red dot that sits high is that the gun is more difficult to hold level.

Well i bought all the stuff, i might as well shoot it. :D We'll see tomorrow.
I moved it back about a 1/4 inch, as far as it would go. It doesnt have good balance IMO, but no worse than it was before (it was always too front heavy to me).
Oh well, i'm pretty sure i can get what i paid for the stuff so if it doesnt feel right i'll try the solows.

I reckon my 22/45 with SoLow mounts is plenty high but .. all feels good and I zeroed for 25 yds .... out to 50 the aim-off is small .. this set-up is a grin-inducing tack driver :) .... all I would hope for.

P95Carry, that's a sweet setup. I've been thinking about putting a red dot sight on my 22/45. Any recommendations? And are those particular mounts widely available?

And are those particular mounts widely available? MP5 .... well, this has a ''Simmons Shot Dot'' on it .... not too bad a red-dot for IIRC about $65 .. or so. I got the SoLow mounts of the web from somewhere ... don't ask me where? I think a Google search will yield sources probably.
In the fitting instructions they recommend use of a low strength CA adhesive (supplied I think) under the lower clamping pieces .. I did not use that and so far the mounts have stayed as they were when fitted.
Only problem .... 10 rounds goes quick - real quick - feel the need for an extended mag to hold something nearer 50 rounds!:D

MP5...
Several places sell the SoLow mounts but not for any less than getting them direct. Just go to www.solow.com.
UltraDot red-dot sights seem to be the best mix of quality, performance, and price. I got mine from Larry’s Guns.

I have a 4-Dot for bullseye shooting. I don’t use it anymore, because I’m working on my iron-sight skills, but when I did it was great. You can adjust the size of the dot to just cover the black area of the target, making sighting even easier.
