AR Stock

Helped a friend put a colapsable stock on an AR15 today. I've done this before but it's been a while. I've got an old BUSHY myself. Whats the flat on the buffer for? It runs from the face to the rear of the forward part of the buffer. Does it assist in assembly past buffer retainer? Should it be readadjusted from 6 o'clock to 12 after assembly? Or is it an air compression release. I know there's a hole in the rear of the buffer tube for that.

Don't worry about it. As long as the buffer is being caught by the buffer retaining pin, the orientation of the flat is irrelevant.
