I was wondering if someone knows the pressure levels that 38 spec, 38spec+p, 38/44 and 357 loads are.

Peter M. Eick October 25, 2004, 08:43 PM I am not sure of the pressure, but I would guess they are +P+ levels. You would probably be interested in this. I just bought some original 38/44 heavy duty rounds from a collector. I have just enough cartraiges coming that I can chrono them out of my Pre-war and Post-War Heavy Duties and my 38/44 Outdoorsman and my Registered Magnum. By doing this I will have velocities at 5", 6" and 6.5" from both pre-war and post-war guns of the 38/44 and 357 magnum designations. My goal is to then get commercial ammo in the same bullet weight in +p and standard and chrono them all at once out of each gun so we can document what the power levels are. The Ammo is 158 grn Copper Tipped Lead High Speed ammo from 1931 (if I remember right) for use only in 38/44 or similar frames. I have not hit my local gun dealer yet but I am sure I can find a +P 158 grn lead and 158 grn lead non+p 38 special ammo to compare to. I will run the test probably next month. I would like to put the 38/44 question to bed as far as I am concerned.
