Talon News story (http://www.gopusa.com/news/2004/october/1026_rehnquist_cancer.shtml)

See what happens?

The next President will probably nominate 4 Justices and appoint a Chief Justice. Having the Senate's most liberal be the one to do that is a skerry prospect. If the President and the Congressional majority are opposing parties, it will not be pretty and will consume a lot of their time with multiple nominees over four years. Frankly I would want neither liberal candidates nor religiously biased ones. A few more strict Constitutionalists would be very timely. Promoting District Justices could get very controversial.

I think this will be a case where voters for one of the two major parties (electable candidates) will have the most to say about the future direction of this country for many decades. The balancing factor will be Senate seats, but one would have to admit that the Senate is too often dysfunctional, as is the process of conferencing between houses of Congress.

If anyone now thinks that reelecting Bush is not imperative, they ought to have their heads examined.

Actually yes, and with all due respect, in my opinion the ones who do are the smart ones.
