10/22+Hogue+Butler Creek = 8" groups?!?!?

Whats the deal. I ordered a Buttler Creek Featherweight carbon barrel and Hogue overmold stock from Natchez. I went out this mornign expecting to see groups atleast 1/2 inch at 50 yards (it was shooting that well in stock trim) or smaller. Out of a 10 shot string, 1 or 2 will hit near the point of impact. The others are flyers, usualy going high or left. I don't get it. Do I have a bad barrel or did I screw something up. I followed the instructions to the letter. Is there a common mistake in installing 10/22 barrels?
Thanks

Wow that pretty wild what did it shoot b4 the change?
i would check the barrel mounting again and then make sure the stock is pressing against the barrel some where and making it throw the shots

something is definitely wrong, is the barrel mounted right? Maybe you got a defective bbl. How many diff. types of ammo did you try?

Are you using a scope?
I have the BC barrel and bipod stock combo and can shoot one ragged hole at 25 yds.
Check to make sure everything is still tight.
Check to make sure the barrel is not beeing stressed, ie. free float it if necessary.
Update when you can. We'll get you squared away. ;)

I've heard bad things about the BC Carbon barrel.
Installing 10/22 barrels is pretty straightforward. While it's not likely to cause your problem, make sure the barrel block is tensioned evenly (I did mine by feel and it shoots fine).
Make sure nothing is touching the barrel or putting pressure on the action.
If you had a stock 10/22 shooting 1/2" at 50yds, you shouldn't have touched it.

If you use a scope, make sure the mount and the scope are nice and tight.

I had the carbon barrel for a while, it shot 3/4 inch at 100. I would look to your scope mounting. My 10/22 will rattle things loose now and then.

yeah, and if you don't have a bolt buffer, you should look into getting one. They are super cheap.

Although I generally like BC, their Featherweight barrel is pretty poor, IMO. I had dropped one into a 10/22 (along with the BC stock from their kit via Natchess also) for a lightweight setup for my niece (11 yo). I'm lucky to get 1" at 25 yds with Fed Lightning. Not much better with old Fed Ultra Match. Have tried it (the stock/barrel combo) straight out of the box, barrel channel relieved to free float the barrel, rubber pads at various locations in the barrel channel to dampen harmonics, built up tape at the tip of the barrel channel touching the barrel, etc. The barrel won't shoot well. It'll do OK for an 11 yo who is just beginning but not for more serious shooting.
If your looking for a good barrel that isn't too expensive, get a Green Mountain.

You might go over to Rimfire Central www.rimfirecentral.com and ask in their 10/22 sections of that forum. They have separate sections for stocks, barrels and actions.
FWIW, the BC carbon fiber barrel is not highly regarded over there but 8" groups are certainly not right. I could get 3" groups at 50yds with the factory tapered barrel.
Once I added a Green Mountain 18" fluted barrel to my 10/22, I was able to get 1" groups at 50yds with the bulk packed Winchester DynaPoints.

If all else checks out, then I would guess it is a problem with the barrel. Mine was bowed-although you couldn't tell in the package. When it was mounted, it was clear that it wasn't straight.
