Looking to celabrate when Bush wins the election. Which one do I go with?
I like the Green stock, forearms, etc. But what is the one Sarco has in their ad about wide forearm for only $699.
This is compared to $660.
Anyone have the Green model?
Are they newer ones? (Higher serial #)
Any imput would be appreciated
Thanks

JLD enterprises makes only two models of the PTR-91. their standard G3 clone and the 91 A1. the PTR 91 looks just like a G3 with the slim forearm but nothing on the end of the muzzle. the A1 comes with the wide forearm, folding bipod and different trigger group. the A1 sports the polymer, one piece grip similar to that of the MP-5N. for some reason, they will not put the wide forearm with bi-pod on their standard PTR 91. (i emailed and asked if i could order one this way and they said no.) internally, they are both the same. its just a matter of asthetics. got whichever one puts a toot in your horn. however, i am under the impression that JLD only makes black furniture for their rifles so the green one may have some sort of aftermarket furniture on it. i'm not positive about that though.
extraction problems were reportedly fixed about serial number 400. over that and you're good to go.

The bipod and forearm, if in good or better condition and original, are normally sold for $140 or $60-70 each. Well worth the extra bit of money. IMO, a wide forearm is a required piece for those of the meaty handed variety. I have slab hands and the slim forearm is too small. And it gets HOT.

Definately. The slim forearm feels like you're trying to grip a pencil.
POF-USA had, and probably will have, the wide forearm and bipod packaged together for $160, iirc.

POF, according to their site, is out for now. FAC America(http://www.gunsnstuffonline.com/) has the forearm and bipod for $65 each.

Neat rifle really. I put mine up for sale just because I had a major urge for an M4, but the PTR-91 is a heck of a deal in a .308. It runs great, is accurate, and mags are under $2 if you find the right deal. Hard to beat a quality battle rifle with $2 mags! I think the base model would do you nicely, given you can add other items later. Mine was above the serial range that had tight chambers, and ran 100% with surplus ammo.

I've pretty much decided that the PTR91 will be my next rifle, but I really can't decide if it's worth an extra 300 clams for the Navy trigger group and the squared forend with bipod. I mean I really LIKE the look of the A-1 a lot better, but is it really worth it?

My PTR has a pretty good trigger as-is. The forearm can be had as mentioned above. I just don't see spending the extra change, when you can use that money for ammo and mags.

I just sold my G3 clone. The wide forearm is a must, the heat shield alone is worth it but so is the larger grip and the looks. I never cared for the HK bipod though, a Harris adjustable is more stable and much lighter and cheaper. I didn't like my HK bipod.

For three hundred dollars? I don't think so. The Navy group makes my left eye twitch. It's uncomfortable to my hands. Some people say they can work the selector switch better and it does provide better access... but a few seconds with a file and you can "adjust" the regular plastic grip to yourself. ;) And the bipod and forearm certainly aren't worth an extra $300. As mentioned they sell for around $140-160 together. I've never tried the bipod myself but it seems to work decently... but not great. I, personally, would skip it.
if you don't want the forearm, bipod, AND the Navy trigger group that extra dough could be spent on useful stuff. Like a flapper mag release conversion, a G3K build( ), or some trigger work. Now if the price gap is smaller... you might want to consider it.
Another option is to buy a G3 parts kit from FAC (http://www.gunsnstuffonline.com/index.aspx?pagename=moreinfo&dssid=e086e27b-16b7-476c-9d32-bb3d82eb388d&uniqueid=4088247), a receiver (http://www.gunsnstuffonline.com/index.aspx?pagename=moreinfo&dssid=e086e27b-16b7-476c-9d32-bb3d82eb388d&uniqueid=4088254), some (http://www.gunsnstuffonline.com/index.aspx?pagename=moreinfo&dssid=e086e27b-16b7-476c-9d32-bb3d82eb388d&uniqueid=4088263) U.S. (http://www.gunsnstuffonline.com/index.aspx?pagename=moreinfo&dssid=e086e27b-16b7-476c-9d32-bb3d82eb388d&uniqueid=4087968) parts (http://www.gunsnstuffonline.com/index.aspx?pagename=moreinfo&dssid=e086e27b-16b7-476c-9d32-bb3d82eb388d&uniqueid=4088271) and ship it all off to Big50HK (http://www.big50hk.com/HK%20Build.htm) or IGF (http://www.investmentgradefirearms.com). All in all that will probably tally up to 800+. But it will be a dern nice rifle.

I saw a PTR91K at a gun show and my jaw nearly dropped. It had perfect weight and balance and would be the ultimate one rifle, but then I saw the price. Twice the amount of a regular PTR91, I was kind of upset, but then I checked on the price of a conversion done by a gunsmith and doesn't seem that bad now. Maybe some day.:(

Do the JLD rifles have the fluted chambers (that mess up the brass) like the original HKs?

They should. The initial run, as I understand it, left that out to get more "accuracy" out of the rifles. This made them into semi-autos sometimes and single shots on others. So now they have the fluting.
