I am brand-spanking new to shotgunning and clay sports.

I have done a *ton* of reading on this site and on others.

Seems like the Beretta 39x series of shotguns are the most recommended semi-auto for clay sports.

So, that determined, I started reading about the different models, hoping to find out which might be the *best* for me to look at / try out.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to locate a table or spreadsheet anywhere that lays out what the features of the different models are.

Can anyone point me toward where I can see the differences between Teknys vs Urika, Gold vs not, Mobilchoke vs Optimachoke, and finally, Sporting vs Trap or Target?

Given that I want to shoot clays recreationally and that I don't yet know enough about the various disciplines (Trap, Skeet, 5 Stand, etc) to pick ONE, what model ought I focus on?

I'll be attending the big Houston show mid-November and will "try" different models at that time. (They'd probably get upset if I tested them for recoil there, though... :what: )

Thanks, I appreciate your help and advice.

I understand your confusion. I am around them quite a bit and still can't keep the designations straight.

Try a couple of places to see their descriptions.

The Mobile choked guns are older with a tighter barrel dimension usually about .724 versus the standard .729.

The Optima chokes are newer with backbored barrels and the internal dimension is .734 or so. Optima chokes are longer and don't interchange with the Mobile chokes. Optima barrels are generally lighter than the older barrels.

The Urika is the original 391. The Urika Gold is a higher grade version usually with a little engraving, gold inlay and nicer wood.

The Teknys came after the Urika and it is a fancier 391 with a silver receiver and the colored inserts where the reciever meets the stock. The basic Teknys usually comes with X-tra wood which is a film put over plain walnut to make it look fancy. The Teknys Gold is the competition model with standard but higher grade walnut and usually a wider rib.

The trap model has a higher stock and longer barrels while the sporting model has a lower stock.
