Adding weight inside stock

May be a dumb idea (feel free to say so, what little ego I have is rolled up in my pistolero side of shooting ; ) )
But I've got a 870 SP recently put a 18" BBL, and slightly shorter synthetic stock on for a home defense gun and game playing gun. Was just noticing in a practice session today how muzzell heavy it is especially when loaded (and I don't even have any mag extensions).
Just wondering -muzzel heavy, nice empty hollow stock anyway...extra weight might reduce recoil a bit..not going to be carrying it miles over hill and dale anyway...
Any thoughts???

you need to still beable to remove the stock if you have to so nothing perminent, and you don't want anything moveing around on you.you can mount something to the inside of the pad so it still fits and screws down the same or fill the gaps with clay and aluminim foil and mix up sand and epoxy and pour it in,the slickness of the stock will work as its own release agent and the goo wont stick, the clay and alu. foil just fill the places you don't want any of the stuff to go and cover the stock bolt area, when its all dry pop it out and clear out the packing,it wont move and it will add weight, you could fill a zip lock bag with the mix also if you don't want all the mess that could happen also.

A couple options here.
First, a trash hull full of shot and crimped down hard will add 3 oz of weight if you use small shot. Secure it so it doesn't move. Try that, it's surprising how much the feel can change with a few oz.
A roll of pennies adds a bit less weight and costs all of $.50.
Note that adding weight at the pad will change the feel more than if it's further towards the center.

Thanks to simmonsguns and Dave for the ideas.
Is this a pretty rare annoynance in that people just get used to it, or is it common for people to add a little weight to balance out the gun?

i see more of it in trap and skeet stocks than in HD guns.balance is better for quicker shots, but you don't want to go to far and have a gun that weigh's more than you can handle or swing quickly.an object in motion stay's in motion, the more weight the slower the swing.

Since I put the 18-1/2" barrel on my Maverick 88 by Mossberg, I added some weight in the stock bolt cavity. I cut open some of my 1-oz slugs, dropped the slug into the cavity, and then put in some of those 'packing peanuts' to hold the slugs close to the stock bolt, and to keep them from ratlling around.
