I'm not sure what it is called so don't know where to look for threads on these things in the archives, however while watching defense shotgun competition I saw the tubes that carrie a numbe of rounds that are used to do a quick reload. What are they, which shotguns can accept them and how well do they work?

They are called "Tec-Loaders" and are very popular with IPSC Shotgun shooters.
They are mainly aimed at the Remington 1100 and the Benelli M1.
Its an easy mod to the gun, just a bolt on plastic adaptor. The adaptor isnt even mandatory, but it makes life easier.
Check www.speedshooters.com and brownells for pics and more info.

I've got a set for my 870 and 1100, and I've seen them for Remingtons, Winchester 1200/1300s, and the Benellis; this page ( http://www.jprifles.com/ShotgunAccessories.shtml ) shows a bracket for the loaders on a pistol-grip-equipped 11-87, but I've never been able to get them to work as well on a pistol-grip shotgun as on a shotgun with a plain butt. The tubes hold 4 rounds apiece, and once you get the motion down right, they can be VERY quick.
Edit to add: One thing that most users do is take a Dremel or file and smooth off the sharp edges on the bracket, just so they don't slice or gouge up their hands if they want to stuff one or two rounds into the tube manually.

Any idea if I can use one of those in my Model 11?
