Does anyone know anything about the 4040PD Smith & Wesson, if it is a good gun or not, or any bad info they have heard about this Gun. I see other guns listed but never this one. This gun runs approx 700.00 dollars.

As per the 2004 Shooters Bible the S&W 4040PD is the first
scandium .40 caliber pistol ever produced. I have not ever seen
one, or heard any feedback; positive or negative?

It's slimmer than a Glock counterpart, weighs about 25 oz, holds a few less rounds (singlestack). Very comfortable, great trigger, but has magazine disconnect (can't fire w/o mag). After decocking, can't recock with smooth hammer. Accuracy is on par with Glock. More comfy to carry than my Glock 30, but not as handy as my Kahr PM9. I paid $675.

Scandium aside the cool thing about the 4040PD is that it`s the only single stack .40 S&W built on the same size frame as the 3913 9mm. The earlier aluminum frame single stack .40s were built on the larger 10mm sized frame. The magazines are 10mm sized and have an internal spacer in order to reliably feed the shorter .40 rounds. In other words they`re somewhat larger and heavier than they need to be for .40 S&W. The 4040PD should be more size efficient. Marcus

My dad owns one, and has let me fire it a bit. We both agree that the trigger pull is a bit long. I have a problem with shooting everything too low because of this. He's had a lot more practice with it so he's pretty good with it now. Not a problem with the gun, more of a user error so you may not be bothered by it. User error removed (different shooter) and the thing is very accurate.

I do love the size and weight of it. It's a perfect carry gun. I do wish it could hold a few more rounds, but I could deal with 7 +1.

Ralphie my buddy had the same problem with my P-40. He was actually shooting under the target stands! I told him to change his hold by putting the middle finger of his offside hand right up against the bottom of the trigger guard, then wedge the off side trigger finger up against. It`s part of Mas Ayoob`s Stress Fire technique. The rest of his shots were in the black. I find it helps me with any DA gun. Marcus
