I heard from two sources that Schrade is out of business...To bad, another American Company down the tubes......Guess we can all buy Chinese!!!!

I have a number of their knives, and thought they were a good buy for the price....

Imperial Schrade closed their doors July 30, 2004, after 100 years of business. We will not be able to restock our Schrade inventory as it sells out. There will be no more original Schrade knives produced, making the few Schrade knives we have left extremely collectable. If we can, we will buy these items on the secondary market when possible. Two knife magazine editors have told me that there is some chance that another company will buy Schrade and use that name again.

9-11 precluded people carrying knives on aircraft, and many amusement parks and state fairs, etc. have banned knives.

This caused a severe drop in cutlery sales. It probably prevented very few crimes, and trampled our rights. Osama bin Laden definitely changed our way of life.

I hope the name will change at least a little to differentiate between the two eras( actually three eras). If not my frenzied buying spree might be for nothing.

I think one of Schrades biggest problems was progression.
one of their advertisements is "Knives Like Grandad's"
Kids don't want granddad's mumbly-peg, wear in a holster, pocket, pen knives anymore. They want the super duper plastic handled, tactical, clip ons, that don't get lost in your pockets, and can be opened as quick as a switch blade, one handed, knives

Us old guys want Grandad's knives because we are getting to be Grandad's age and miss him and are coming to the realization that we will be meeting him again all to soon.

I've got about 20 of these litle beauties 15 or so bought in the past few weeks. Most are still in their original boxes, and I'm looking for more

There has been an auction and the Schrade name etc have been sold to Taylor Cutlery in Tennesee. Taylor does not makes knives , only imports them so I suspect that you will see made in China knives with the name Schrade.Don't look for quality.

All I got left is to sit in the corner - wind my watch and drool.... and I got an electric watch.

Since my above post, I've heard that Taylor paid $3.6 million for use of the Schrade name. Look for Chinese knives, I guess...


I've heard that some Arab tried to buy the Alamo. Is nothing sacred?

I believe the French limit who can buy their famous wine estates. Pity we can't do that with American cutlery brands.

For you guys who want to hoard up a few Schrades: Start haunting hardware stores and similar places. Generally, you'll find a display of Schrade/Old Timer knives that they've had for aeons. Buy all. The display case, too, if it is brand-marked and you can get them to sell it.

I've already gotten 2 local store owners to promise me the display case when it empties or comes close
