Using CCI Velocitors in small pistols

CCI touts the Velocitor as having a 30% energy increase at the muzzle with a 40gr 'Gold Dot' hollowpoint. Reports suggest the energy claim is true. Whether the bullet is a 'Gold Dot' in the truest sense is an open question. Look at them and decide for yourselves.

My concern is, using these in a small semi-auto pistol may be pushing the edge of the envelope, needlessly battering the slide and frame, for not that much gain over , say, the Stingers, which are already 'hotter' than your average .22lr. This round still (according to the errornet) shows performance increases in six-inch barrels, but out of a 3" or so barrel I'm wondering if it isn't asking too much, and unacceptably increasing wear.

Any thoughts or opinions?

No one else has answered so I will;
I have a Taurus Mod 95 "Lite " revolver that I carry occasionaly when fishing and as a back-up when "on duty".
I now carry the Velicitors because:
1. Fastest 40gr load available
2. Semi-hollow point will give some upset for greater shock but retain penetration. "Gold Dot" technology involves plated bullets and punched hollow points, so all .22 RF h-p's are "Gold Dot" technology)
3. Availability: Wally World most always now has them

My chronographing from 2" bbl indicates they are still 100+fps faster than next fastest load which is CCI mini-mags.
Velicitors: 1100fps 2" bbl
Mini-mag hp: 1030fps (37gr bullet)
" " solid: 985fps

The Winchester Power Point is the only other 40gr load I've chrono and it runs about 955fps as does the X-pert 36gr. The Federal Value Packs run about 1,000fps but give mis-fires so are totally unacceptable.
Velocities from my S&W 617-6" run about 100fps faster across
the board, and about 100-150fps slower than 20" bbl rifles.

As far as battering the gun, you have to decide as I'm sure this depends on the design and construction of the gun. It is not an issue with a revolver. Some are reporting on www.rimfirecentral.com problems with the Velicitor cracking Ruger 10/22 frames.
I don't trust .22 s/a for self-defense as rimfire ignition is insufficiently reliable in my estimation. With revolver, you just keep pulling the trigger, and with 9 shot capacity your not as adversly affected.

Anyway, with handgun, Im going to be shooting and running for cover anyhow. Any gun is better than none when you need one, besides, having one ususlly precludes needing one. If I think I need one, I have my issue Glock mod 22 w/issue ammo. If I really need one, its either a 12ga or Bushmaster w/30rd magazine(s) and a radio call for HELP!
