I've got an SKS and am thinking of restocking it. I don't care for the looks of the black plastic pseudo dragunov kind of things. I prefer wood or reasonable facsimile thereof. I was looking about and after seeing the wacky colored and shaped stocks available at Richards Microfit [www.rifle-stocks.com] (though apparently not for sks) I was wondering if any of you folks had run across anything like that.

thanks

According to rumor and ledgend, Fajen briefly made a thumbhole stock for the SKS at one point. Since neither I nor anyone that I know personally has ever seen such a beast, for all I know this may just be one of those ugly Internet rumors. OTOH, it may be true and maybe you'll get lucky and find one.

With all the SKS's around why doesn't someone make a decent stock for them? I would buy a nice sporter thumbhole design. Laminate or wood or even a nice synthetic. I have one with a Monte Carlo stock that says Combat Exchange, but it is just OK. Kind of heavy.

Probably the best stock made for the SKS was the Bell and Carlson.

I got this one off of E-bay several years ago. At that time I did an extensive search for SKS stocks. We did have some folks making decent wooden stocks but they are no longer in production. A custom SKS wooden stock would easily cost 2 to 3 times what the rifle did originally.
Here is a link to some SKS stock info.
