I read somewhere that the BAR used an M1917 (Enfiled) rear sight, but that was adjustable for windage. Can this rear sight be used on the M1917 without modifying the rifle?

The BAR sight is of the same general type as the M1917 sight, but is bigger and has protective sides made as part of the sight. It is riveted on.

The sights are not interchangeable and installing a BAR sight on a M1917 would not be possible.
