Sideways hold

Just curious here but, has anyone ever heard or read or guessed at why gangbangers like to fire their weapons sideways? Anyone would know you cannot be more accurate and you cannot have more control over the weapon. My only guess is that they do not want to do it the same way as "the man" and maybe you look cooler or badder when holding it sideways.

Yeah they probably think they look "hard" when they do that. :D

I was talking to a kid I saw holding his Glock "gangsta" style & asked him why...his reply was because he got better control that way, it's how it's done in the hood & it's cool that way.

would you believe...because it is more natural.

consider this...they have little or no training, they have no preconceived idea of how to shoot (other then TV) and it feels natural.

if you let your hand hang naturally at your side and bring it up to eye level without conciously straightening or turning it. you will fine that the hand will rotate so that the palm faces downward. this is also the natural rotation in the classic "boxing jab" (ali was the first renown boxer to use the "karate" jab)

or maybe because...

it just looks

I've heard that it orginally started because they didn't want the gun to cover the face of an actor. So the actor simply turned the gun sideways. That way they got the effect of the gun pointing right at the camera but one could still see the actor's face. The rest is history.

Maybe it is so the ejected cartridges dont hit thier homies in the face.

Copy & paste, anyone?

BTW, the REAL answer is still, "Cause they're STOOPID!"

I hope any gang bangers who I may have to encounter against me in a gunfight hold their guns that way. I'd hate to be against somebody who wasn't cool....

In the movies and such ive seen, ive noticed that they do it alot during drive bys. Could it have to do with sticking your hand out the window, especially the back windows that only roll down 1/2 way.

Either that or what Daniel Flory said.

One person (he seemed to know a lot of stuff  ) told me cheep guns would kick brass over the top and back in said homie's face.

Another homie who said he was one hard homie, said there's less tension on your wrist when you shoot that way. He also knew lots of stuff, especially the Way of the Homie.

The Skunk thinks it's because rappers hold their microphones the same way. :D
