I'm going to refinish my Remington 700 stock. I'll use a chemical stripper and a water hose. The water won't stay on it long enough to penetrate the wood. Any problems with this approach?

The fore-end is plastic. Will a stripper hurt that?

Finally, I heard that there must be some pressure from the end of the stock on the barrel. How critical is that? What happens if I sand the pressure points off?

thanx in advance.

I'd try just a little paint stripper on the inside of the fore-end, in the barrel channel where it won't show. If there's any problem, then use masking tape to protect the outside from the chemicals.

My 700 stock doesn't touch the barrel except for a few inches from the receiver. The rest is free-floated. It's a skinny-barrel .223, if that makes any difference.

Regards.
