Just bought a New Model Blackhawk .41mag, and am wondering if there is any break in procedures any of you would recomend? I shoot mostly cast and some jacketed. Thanks, Jim.

Sure...

Pay for firearm.
Wait 10 days (if you live in the occupied territories). :cuss:
Purchase state-approved gun lock (if you live in the occupied territories). :cuss:
Take firearm home.
Read owners manual.
Disassemble and clean firearm as recommended by the manual.
Drive to the increasing rare gun ranges (if you live in the occupied territories). :cuss:
Shoot firearm and enjoy. :D

Optional Break-In:

!. Remove cylinder.

2. Put basepin back in.

3. Dryfire several hundred times. (Won't hurt anything and will ease trigger pull.

4. When done, replace cylinder.

Unlike some automatic pistols, revolvers don't have to be "broken in." but dry-firing will burnish and smooth the action.

Nope.
Other than getting into the darn plastic box, some of these are just plain built funny IMO.

If not familiar with a particular gun use owners manuel to get aquainted.Clean and lube (use muzzle guard ) or use a pull through system to prevent damage to crown. Correct ammo of course, shoot, repeat often.

Naturally you'll wear eyes and ears.

I just got a blackhawk convertable 45. I put in snap caps and dry fired it about 200 times tonight. When the neighbors go to work, I'm takin it for a test drive in the back yard. I still live in a lightly developed area outside the city limits. Only one of the neighbors really even cares. He leaves about 8:30.

Any way, fire 60 rounds let cool, clean, repeat until ammo supply is exhausted, hand is sore, or spouse is threatening to beat you to death with your new toy, which ever comes last. I intend to get to know the blackhawk very well.

I just got a new 7.5" red hawk in .44 mag,

My procedure, take home, lubricate with FP10, dry fire a couple hundred times.

Get reloading dies with the gun, brass, toolhead, bullets set up loading press. read speer manual 13, lyman manual, and powder mfg website. make up a good handload, mild preferrably (I settled on 7 gr Unique 240 hardcast LSWC),
load 100 rounds, take to range, set up 25 yard target, shoot free hand (wearing safety glasses), then shoot from a bag to get sights adjusted, finish 100 rounds, Take home and clean.

Thats my break in so far.
