Everything I heard about them are glowing reviews. Are there comparable big-name smiths out there or am I best off with Smith?

Work will probably wait until I leave CA so I can get the flash suppressor, so I have a while to chew on this.

As for Smith...depends on what you want to do with the rifle. I have a great recommendation, but I'd hate to see this man's work NOT in competition.

Steve, meant to start a new thread, the other thread started becoming about M1A parts which I also should know so thought I'd start a new one on Smith Ent here.

It'll be a general purpose and probably a long range plinker?

In that case there are many M14 smiths that can do it for you. Try to find one locally. Smith is fine for that stuff.
