I just happened to win a Kimber Classic Custom on Gunbroker for a pretty fair price, and I know it is a little late but does anyone have any tips for gun buys over the internet??

Is there anything I should watch out for, or check prior to sending payment????

Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated...

I always contact the seller by E-mail, and request a full name, address, and telephone number; then I call the number and speak with the person.

If any of the information isn't forthcoming, I don't do business.

I've had pretty good success with GunBroker.com and reasonable caution.

I've done some deals on Gunbroker (buying and selling) and on Auction Arms. The only problems I have had was with selling. People jerk you around so much.

Check their feedback and check to see what other items they are selling. If they tend to sell alot of guns and have a alot of positive feedback, I think you are dealing with a straight shooter.

If the guy isn't a FFL dealer, I won't buy from him because my FFL dealer won't accept the gun unless he ships it through another FFL.

What is it with me and the questions tonight??

Can they end an auction early?

It started on the 24th @ 2300 and ended the 25th @2100, just seemed kinda shady, I was almost certain that it was slated to end on March 1st...

I have seen where they have a 'Buy it Now for This Price' option..it's usually only a couple of dollars more than the reserve, and it's not a true auction...

I have watched items and knew they ended at a certain date but when I checked on them, they had closed. Sometimes the seller has made a sale outside of Gunbroker so he ends it early. I think it is O.K. as long as nobody has bid.

Firestar,

That sucks that you can't accept guns from anyone other than a FFL.

The best deals I have found are always from a private party, and most of them don't want to hassle sending it from an FFL.

Luckily, my FFL don't have that problem, he'll take it from wherever I get it.

Some of the auctions have a little disclaimer saying that they have the right to end the auction at any time if they sell the gun outside of the auction. It would be interesting to find anyone who has sold on gunbroker and find out what kind of priviliges and power they have over their auctions

I have both bought & sold on Gunbroker with good results. Communication & verification is the key to a successful outcome. A reputable seller will be forthcoming with all the information you ask of him. Remember...Nobody likes a $500 surprise. Always check his feedback.
I have ended auctions early when I have the piece running somewhere else and it was purchased there, but only if there hasn't been a bid, or the reserve hasn't been met.
