The real difference between the majority of Democrats today and Republicans is one side is good at making up fantasies while the other is good at adapting to reality.

It seems that most Republicans are from professions that force them to learn their environment and adapt to it; professions like engineering, managing/owning competitive private businesses, or providing services in competitive markets.

Democrats seem to be dominated by people from professions that only require in-house politics and no actual results at all. Professions like academians, government bureaucrats, entertainers, creative artists, etc.

I think this is largely why Republicans keep improving their results in elections as they adapt to what the general public wants, compared to the Democrats who only seem good at explaining why their last North Eastern liberal Presidential candidate lost yet again.

The epitome of this is Kerry's campaign manager's win/loss record is like 0 of 8 elections, while Rove is now something 6-1. Good grief!

The Democrats are dominated by people who have no concept of reality and don't care to get one.

We need another party of loyal opposition; this ones broken.

If they weren't busy dreaming up utopian ideas, what would they do?

Republicans have no heart
democrats have no brains

How can you tell when a politician lies?
his lips move.

In all seriousness, Republicans still have to reach for the center.I think the red/blue state map emphasizes the division of the nation and both parties are using the image for their own purposes. I live in a "blue state" and voted bush. In fact 45% of the state did! And that is with practically no ads on tv.

I am pro freedom. Niether party has a monopoly on that but the gop is typically more pro gun. But the republicans have to show that they are doing something to help the little guy about the rising cost of health care or they will get creamed in 2008.

To me all the blogs and articles seem to be talking about populism and the dems can't belive that the republicans used it against them.

One aside I hate those recorded phone calls and am thinking of voting against the candidate that annoys me at home the most.

The only way that's going to happen is to put people like John Edwards out of business and that my friend, is one powerful lobby.

My grandmother, who didn't talk politics very much, once told me: "It's funny. When a Democratic President picks his Cabinet members, they step up to accept the position. When a Republican picks his Cabinet, they step down to take the job."

Sure thread killer the trial lawyers are a huge problem. It's great Bush wants to go after them.He should also get the anti gun lawsuit bill re introduced.

However,I'm not sure that they are the whole reason why my health care gets costlier and costlier every year.

People also have to not give out huge awards to idiots. Just because a lawyer tries to make a case you don't have to believe him.

I agree with your last sentiment. The lawyers are only presenting a case, it the juries that make the final stupid decision on civil awards.

I also believe that this country needs tort reform so that there are reasonable limits to how much damage a stupid jury can do.

Before the 1992 election, Al Gore was a proponent of this, stating that one of the reasons medical costs were so high is that doctors were forced to perform defensive measures that were not scientifically necessary because of the threat of malpractice suits. He sited as an example his daughter went into emergency care because she had inhaled a feather. ER gave her an x-ray, even though they knew a feather would not show up on the x-ray. But, they did it to prevent a lawyer from claiming negligence and to prevent a stupid jury from awarding damages later in case anything went wrong. Meanwhile Al had to "cough up" (ahem) the money for an unneeded x-ray.

Unfortunately, that was the end of it, AFAIK. I never heard the Clinton administration address the issue after they were elected. In fact, they took the opposite tack: free medical care of all sorts to everybody, a proposal even less affordable.

Could be why pilots (even union member pilots) tend to be overwhelmingly conservative.

Hmm, Both my wife and I work in "liberal professions" and we also know liberals that work in "conservative professions." I think that categorizing people based on their profession is just as useful as saying that gun owners are white, rural, and ignorant or that religious people are narrow minded.

You are correct, Steve. This is more of a broad generalization; it doesn't hold true in every case, and is certainly not rigid enough for categorization.

If you're not a democRAT at 20, you have no heart.

If you're not a Republican by 40, you have no head.

(With apologies to Winston Churchill.)

There were allegedly 10,000 activist liars - um lawyers - set to challenge the election results. Sounds like a heavily democratic group to me.

The person with a Science degree asks;"Why will that work?"

The person with an Engineer's degree asks;"How will it work?"

The person with a Business degree asks;"What will it cost?"

The person with the Liberal Arts degree asks;"Would you like fries with that?"

Which are most likely to also be Democrats? :D

That's a great observation, and it speaks volumes.
