Bump fire ADs from SARs

I just got off the phone with my nephew.
Somehow we drifted onto the subject of SARs and he made the comment that they have a reputation for bump fire ADs. Bump fire in this case being defined as having a loaded round in the chamber, weapon cocked of course and then the rifle, being held in a verticle position discharges when the butt is bumped on the ground or other solid structure.
Having never heard this before I thought I'd go to the source and see if this is true or a legend. If true, is it just a SAR thing or an issue for all AK varients.

Thanks in advance.

I think a big >>WHY??<< is in order here for a practice like this!

AD?? ..............I think not, perhaps another type of 'D' but this is a friendly forum.

He's asking if they are prone to fire if dropped butt-first. I don't think this is something he'd do for grins.

Since the SARs don't have a spring-loaded firing pin, I suppose it's possible, but not very probable. Is the hammer supposed to have dropped or is it all firingpin?

Actually, he may have just been confused over the term "bump fire".
Bump fire, means taking any semi-auto rifle, holding it firmly by the forend, and pulling it against your trigger finger, while holding the trigger finger staionary.

With an AK or AR, the gun sounds like it is a full-auto weapon, though it would be almost impossible to accurately hit a target this way.

On AK boards, there is a lot of talk about bump firing, and even some video clips of guns being bump fired.
They are not talking about ADs.
Just a fun way to make noise, and waste ammo.

Just my $.02.

"He's asking if they are prone to fire if dropped butt-first. "

Thanks Destructo6 that is what I was asking about.

This would never happen in the course of something intentional but rather is the firearm was bumped accidentally.
