This from the Register in Britain (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/11/07/blue_state_to_reds/):

Reach out and sneer: Dem radicals speak to the Red States

By New Democrat Outreach Program
Published Sunday 7th November 2004 12:30 GMT

The defeated Kerry may have called for unity last week, but already radical elements inside and outside of the Democrat party are arguing for the abandonment of the old ways of cosy consensus. One such organisation, formed even as the last queues for the ballots ebbed away, styles itself "The New Democrat Outreach Program." The Register has been contacted by one NDOP activist, styling himself Commandante Camembert, with an early draft of the organisation's first communique to the nation. "We must," says Camembert, "learn to speak to all of the people. But we mustn't be afraid to sneer when we do it."

We think they've got that right already, although the "outreach" may need some work. Anway, here it is:

An open letter to the Red-State victors:

With hard work and superb organization, you have triumphed over John Kerry and the forces of Blue-state paternalism. Congratulations. The multinational corporations that hold you in bondage remain free to profit off your sweat nearly tax free, while their overpaid senior execs continue to pay a pittance in personal income tax.

Your primary and secondary schools will continue to turn out third-rate pupils with limited opportunities, while you enjoy the satisfaction of making it on your own without health care when a catastrophic illness bankrupts your family.

Your agricultural universities will continue issuing Ph.D.s in football, and bogus Protestant Evangelical and Fundamentalist theology, and how to jerk off a bull safely. Your children will learn to borrow enough money to erect chicken houses so that they, like you, can take custody -- not possession, but custody -- of Tyson's chicks, feed them, rear them, assume losses from those that fail to thrive, and in the end earn just enough money to service their endless debt, and realize a profit of perhaps $12K a year. Your bank thanks you; Tyson thanks you; George W. Bush thanks you; and I thank you.

You can continue sending your sons to die in Iraq on a fool's errand. When you bury them, you can console yourselves with Bush's platitudes about their heroic mission to defend America from weapons of mass destruction.

You can savor the deficit spending that stimulates commerce today, but will cripple the US economy in ten or fifteen years' time when the bills come due with interest. Perhaps a Democrat will be in office at that time, who can be blamed for W's delayed economic fiasco.

You can continue believing, as Republican Party brainwashing has persuaded you, that we, your neighbors, are your enemies. You can believe that we have no morals; that we pimp out our teenage daughters for Internet porn; that we eat babies; that we are all gay; that we are cowards on the battlefield; and that we want to run your lives and give you AIDS.

Here's a clue: we are not your enemies; we are your countrymen. Your enemies are the greedy multinationals that the Republican Party bends over backwards to accommodate. Incidentally, most of them are based in Blue states, as are their Republican owners and major shareholders.

Here in the Blue States, Democrats and Republicans alike generate the lion's share of America's wealth, although it is you Reds who provide the lion's share of the stoop labor. You are our Mexicans, so to speak. We could not have accomplished the economic miracle that is America without your willing capitulation to a system that lies to you and ????s you over at every turn.

Look at economic output and educational achievement on a state-by-state basis: it's painfully evident that we Blues are immensely more productive and better educated than you Reds. We have lots more money. We live longer. We eat better. We work less. We ???? more. We do cocaine and smoke fine Canadian buds, not the homebrew crank and cheap Mexican headache reefer you guys are stuck with. We drink French wine and Stoli martinis, not Budweiser. Our children rarely bother us: we've got them on Ritalin and Prozac. Our teeth are straighter and whiter, our necks longer, and our fingernails cleaner. And many of us are the Republican elite who have just punked you.

It's good to be a Blue, regardless of which party you join.

Understandably, you resent us, so you've fabricated an imaginary measure of superiority: Christian "values." Yet you talk about values the way a pre-teen girl talks about "love" in fan letters to Ashton Kutcher. You recycle quasi-religious platitudes and received slogans. You know nothing of moral theology, a rigorous philosophical pursuit that hardly exists outside the Catholic Church and its elite universities. You make of the Bible what you will; you attend prayer meetings with other semi-literates, where you reinforce each other's sloppy understandings of the text, and combine them with half-digested bits of old-timey Hallmark-card "wisdom." And when you spout gibberish, you call it "speaking in tongues." You actually fancy that you're saints, you silly, narcissistic creatures.

Nevertheless, you are fellow Americans. The Blue Republican elite encouraged you to vote for George W Bush, because they quite simply own him, and they know that his administration will make policies that help them, even if hurt you. We Blue Democrats voted for John Kerry because we believed he would minister to your needs better than Bush. A President Kerry would have shared some of our wealth with you, assured your health care, raised the minimum wage, and checked the rapacious greed of the multinationals that hold you in thrall.

President Kerry would have helped us to help you, which is all that we ask. It pains us to see you in wage slavery. It pains us to see you so ignorant and uneducated, and so eager to place yourselves in bondage. Yes, we live better; but we wish you to live better too, even if it means sacrifice on our part.

What we wanted for you would have been far better than that which you, in your ignorant pride, demanded for yourselves. Oh, you defeated us all right, but only to your detriment.

We Blues will come out of the Bush era no worse for wear, although you Reds will come out very much diminished, deeper in debt, and less able to improve your circumstances by your own powers. But because you wish to be flattered more than helped, you will be grateful for your ass ????ing from the Blue-state Republican elite that is laughing behind your backs today.

We did not wish it so. We honestly did want to help.

On 2 November, you thanked us by electing a shrewd, manipulative handmaiden to corporate America who panders to you while ruthlessly exploiting your ignorance and weakness for the benefit of his patrons in the national plutocracy. There is nothing we can do about that. You won fair and square.

We should let you rot. We should secede and leave you to fend for yourselves. Then you will see firsthand just how dependent you are. We are sick of fighting for you by fighting against you. Perhaps, when you see how dreary your lives have become without us, you will finally develop the spine to fight for your basic, human rights. And then we will gladly confront the plutocracy alongside you. We need your help to defeat the Blue Republicans, who, I assure you, are just as decadent as we are, though often richer.

But until you finally learn to respect yourselves, we can't respect you, and we therefore can't be bothered to give a rat's ass about you.

So let us secede, Blue America and Red America. We can handle the Blue state Republicans, so long as we don't have a lot of ignorant Red state lemmings frustrating our efforts and screwing themselves in the bargain. Secession will enable us both to live as we have chosen without the other's interference. We will prosper, and you will get a clue.

But do stay in touch after the borders slam shut. When you finally tire of living on the modern, corporate plantations of Cargill, Tyson, ConAgra and Smithfield; when you tire of shopping at Wal-Mart and sending your daughters to sling hash at Denny's in hopes that they'll meet the nicer sort of truck driver; when you tire of sneaking into Blue America as illegal white-trash wetbacks eager for casual work dusting our parlors; and when, like men, you finally rise up in rebellion against this immoral usury -- then, and only then, let us talk.

We'll gladly get your backs. But first you must grow the brains and the balls needed to profit from our help.

Yep, us southerners are just ignant backwoods ditch diggers who have no edjumacation right.

Oh yeah, the Atlanta area now has the 3rd highest population of people with college degrees. Georgia has the best system (HOPE) for sending young people to college. Major corporations (BMW, Mercedes, GM) are beginning to bring their manufacturing plants south so they don't have to deal with the collective idiocy of liberal unions. The south hosts several of the fastest growing counties in the United States.

So my response is get ready for the 2010 census. Watch the south and southern way of life get rewarded with more representation in the House and the Electoral College. As our population grows and the blue state's populations shrink, watch us continue to dominate politics in this country. Watch as the south continues to grow as businesses come down to do business in a free market away from unions and other collectivist mentalities.

Ok, secede. But you don't get the blue states, just the blue counties. That would be a couple slivers of coastline in CA. And just a few counties in MI (including Wayne Co (Detroit)). You do pick up a little ground along the Rio Grande, and some southern Mississippi River land. We might even help by overseeing the elections in your new country.

But secede quickly and quietly. Some of us are going deer hunting soon.

One recurrent theme with the Republicans, especially after each successive national bu-- kicking they deal to the Dems is how out of touch, how deluded and how disconnected the Dems are from the core of American thought and sentiment. The Republicans postulate how the Dems must eventually, if magicically, see their party has stepped away from reality and move back into the light.

Not sure the Dems have it in'em. Sometimes I'm not sure the Republicans have all that much better grip on where the core thinking of the average American is on any number of issues for that matter. The Republicans are just better at the mathmatics of averages.

When Hannity showed her the county by county map, she actually said, "well of course, you see the Blue is all on the two coasts that's where all the real brains and creative power is at the major universities and arts centers like New York, Boston and Los Angeles."

Hannity didn't catch it from what I could see. Too bad, it would have made great TV to confront her with her own prejudices, live on camera.

No, based on that kinf of comment, they still don't get it and with that kind of elitist attitude they never will.

Best thing you can do is make sure lots of people read this stuff. The more exposure the lib whackos receive, the more power they'll lose. The more power they lose, the crazier they'll become. It's a wicked downward spiral that ends with the complete destruction of organized socialism in America.

Let's just make sure that conservatism isn't hijacked before then.

He raised four children. He provided everything we needed. He made dang sure we all went to college. He was pleased when my mother went to college. One daughter is now a physician. Another has her masters degree. He is now gone. He lived a good life. He was well loved. He hated welfare and lazy people. He died with 12 chicken houses,1000 acres of land and cattle and left a wonderful business to his family and a great place for his family to be free to hunt and fish and raise their children. And guess what He did all this without a dime of government help and when he died he was debt free. So shut your socialist yaps and leave use the heck alone. :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: Plus might I add he was raised by a single mother after his father died when he was four in 1934. Many of my friends are still liberals.

They simply can't understand why people, all people, don't know why they won't accept that the Democrat/liberals know what is best for them, and they should be grateful for it.

Intellectual hubris of such depth is truly a wonderful thing to see.

If it's satire, the author is a high IQ. If not, the author is low IQ. A thin line between idiocy and genius.

Personally, I think the Blue regions should secede. And then the US should do the same the US did the last time that was tried. Follow it up with Reconstruction of the same order and policies toward the secessionist regions for the next 90 years.

After that period, we can see what economic output of the area is.

Well, much of the criticism of the Republican Party in that letter is spot on, but what they don't get is that both parties are about as bad. The Dems don't want to share the wealth. They want to share the poverty, and spread it around evenly, while leaving the super wealthy the way they are. Essentially, both parties want to eliminate the middle class. The Dems want to do it by taxing them to near poverty, and the Republicans want to do it by sending all of the middle class supporting industries to third world countries. Both parties are your enemies.

PS, That letter sounds like Communist propaganda to me.

Certainly there is a lot of hubris to assume that one knows best what is best for others. But, isn't that the sin of virtually all leaders?

I think the far more dangerous hubris is to assume people have no right to vote against their own interests.

Take away the profanity, hubris, contempt, and pettiness, and you get a couple of nice paragraphs describing the Bushahidin pretty accurately, IMO.

Also, let's face it, it is true that many blue states pay more to the union than get back from it, while the opposite is true for many red states. What's true is true.

Considering city folk to have weaker values is just as disparaging as considering country folk to have weaker minds. And frankly, homophobes, klansmen, fundamentalists, statists, and Enronists attacking liberals on "values" is straight out of Dr Goebbels's book or Kafka's novel.

I don't understand...

Does this fellow mean that the more money I make, the less taxes I'll pay?

Oh Boy! I've gotta tell my bud Doc about this! He's constantly bitching about the close to 50% that he's having to puke up to pay for all those paintings and sculptures by government supported "artists." Maybe he's really due a big refund! It is only true to a point that the more money you make the more taxes you pay as a percentage of your income. Once you reach the level of the top one percent, or thereabouts, there are ways of avoiding income taxes not available to the middle class. The super wealthy often brag about how little in income taxes they paid last year. I know someone like that, personally. This guy's family, when he was a kid, had a full time limo driver, butler, etc. Now he's in his 80s, but back in the 1970s I remember his son telling me what a good time he had talking about years when he worked it out so he paid nothing in income tax. This guy "retired" from a cushy sinecure when he was 40 years old. Hardly paid anything in income tax since then. Belongs to an exclusive country club, and has really enjoyed himself. I wouldn't mind that, except that the middle class pays half their income away in taxes and this guy used to brag about paying practically nothing in income tax. That's why we need a flat tax, or even better to switch to a national sales tax. There is no way to get around paying your proper share of taxes that way.

Personally, I believe that if the Federal Government did only what it was Constitutionally authorized to do, we wouldn't need anyone to pay any income tax, flat or otherwise. The government could support itself with a modest tax on imports only. But, short of that ever happening, I would like to see an elimination of income tax to be replaced with a national sales tax. The reason this never gets off the ground is because people like the guy I described above donate big time to Republican reelection campaigns, and they like the present tax system just fine.

Also, let's face it, it is true that many blue states pay more to the union than get back from it, while the opposite is true for many red states. What's true is true.

A worthless statistic. Some of these red states, such as Montana, have a lotta highway to pay for because of the size of the states, with a small population. In Montana’s case, they also have big National Parks to maintain.

What is the breakdown by red and blue county ?

And the real issue isn’t red and blue states, it’s red and blue cultures.

My guess is that some of these hotbeds of blue tax-payers are cities that grew on the backs, vision, and initiative of red-value types a hundred years ago. Then after the city grew large and prospered, it attracted blue-value ne’er-do-wells who flocked in for handouts, and then the city’s population was predominantly blue. Now you have blue states crowing about how they’re feeding the red states, whereas in reality it is still the red culture feeding everybody. Just my guess.

I'd like to see Madison and Milwaukee do this here in WI... hard to eat when the farmers hate you.

As to what you were saying about tearning down bush signs and the like in Madison, very true. Around campus you can run into any number of liberal signs, posters, sidewalk chalk etc. But once you even attempt to do any of these things on a more conservative side... people vandalize it immediately. My friends and I did an expiriment on this one night freshman year, we chalked some pro bush, pro going into Iraq messages; nothing really inflamitory or vulgar or anything, just a flipflop of the usual reteric we see on the sidewalk. By morning all of those messages had been edited into much more vulgar and inflamitory messages, which were erased by noon.

End result, Madison is about free speech and expression... as long as you are liberal.

Of course, because the leftists are the ones with the army of Brownshirts to spread their message, intimidate the opposition, and discredit or destroy opposing viewpoints.

Now the Religious Right is also guilty of this, but not neatly to the extent that I have seen among leftist activists.

Now I, no longer, refer to liberal activists as protesters, hippies, or Communists; instead I call them what they acctually are: Brownshirts or Sturmabteilung.

Ha ! You people don't have a clue.

I am a regular reader of the Register (unlike most newspapers, they have a good sense of humour). The Register is primarily concerned with reporting on technology...
(and all IT pros I know concur that they are quite good at that. They have no respect for anything corporate or government.. And I like that. They have no respect for the people either... the only thing they respect is sound engineering.. )

Most of their resident vultures (they call themselves vultures) - see, because by fairly reporting on technology and refusing to be swayed by offers of money they bite the hand that feeds them..

They also have no problems at all thinking that when a CEO of Diebold says he is

"committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president"... and Diebold designs a voting machine that leaves no paper trail, and can be reprogrammed (and results changed ) by anyone with a screwdriver and a flash memory card....
http://openvotingfoundation.org/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=1
That there is *probably* a connection between those two bits of information.

But they also like to troll. They troll a lot, and often very successfully, mainly because they firmly believe that politicians are up to no good. Always have been, always will.
(That's what I believe too. Power corrupts.. and I don't think pretending to be Christian has any connection to one's morality or strength of character. Christians shouldn't lie.. and voila.. the gov't started a major war by lying about reasons for it.)

This irks someone who is both American and patriotic. Entertaining the notion that your nation is good, but politicos crooked is something most patriots* can't stomach! *most people also.

Red americans are known world-wide for their lack of humour and a total incomprehension for all things ironic. Might have something to do with bible reading.. or isolation. Can't blame them..
To me, it's merely funny seeing someone rail against things they misunderstood.
. I mean.. they are ok people, boring but often reasonable and nice.

Also, because you people live in America, with its bizzare two party system, you forget that if anyone disagrees with you.... that that doesn't make him a leftie.

- Register is mostly conservative, disdainful of Blair, ID cards, Wikipedia...
They also enjoy poking fun at anything controversial...

And here is an even better put down of 2004 election results :
From the eXile, a Moscow based magazine : http://www.exile.ru/2004-November-13/moscow_babylon.html.html
more funny.. if you enjoy humour about nuclear weapons and mass gassings).
I don't recommend reading it without first drinking a beer. Relax is what you need.

I've been tracking the Left's reaction to Bush's horrifying election romp, and what's clear to me is that nothing has been learned. Nothing has been learned because no one on the Left is being honest. Their reactions range from bitching about the elections allegedly being stolen -- well duh! what'd you idiots expect from the Republicans?! -- to grotesque, clumsy soul-searching in the form of how Democrats need to get spiritual, get in touch with Middle American "values," or how the Democratic party either needs to move to the center, or the flip-side to this idiocy, move farther to the Left...that coastalites need start going to church more often in order to learn the ways of the savages, to be less secular-humanist, to shop less, to connect with Middle America, to understand Middle America, to allow Middle America to be Middle America, to suck Middle America's hemorrhoid-bejeweled ass and tickle Middle America's balls... What they don't have the guts to admit, once and for all, is that THE PROBLEM IS MIDDLE AMERICA. Stop blaming the victim, folks. The problem with the idiocy and lunacy are the idiots and lunatics, not their mugging victims.

Y.T., the only thing i garnered from the second bit that you posted from the register, was overwhelming disdain for a set of traditional, 'middle-american' values that, a: happen to be held by a majority of americans, and b: are valued by those americans as much as many europeans seem to value the absence of god, responsible behaviour, backbone etc. in their daily lives and in their politics. those values, generally, are not 'middle-american', they are simply american. though, i understand where the venom comes from....there would be little understanding of these values in europe, given how tragically morally vapid that continent has become.

incidentally, insulting your intended audience, as you have attempted to do, smacks of an already lost debate on your part. this is a widely accepted rule of dialogue and rhetoric, the world over.

It wasn't from the Register. It was from the eXile, which is a gonzo-styled web magazine based in Russia..
contributors are mostly Americans who emigrated to Moscow, or Russians who learned english.
It was taken out of context ( the link below). The context is a long rant by someone who is not leftie nor a right-winger but very angry about the state of affairs in the US. You can consider that guy elitist...

So Y.T., are you a supporter of RKBA? Just curious.

Yes.. though my outlook is more similar to the one Czech gun-owners have.
That it's not a fundamental right, but it would be insane trying to ban guns... as
-list all the arguments that are thrown in favour of RKBA.
-less than 5% of firearm crime in Czech Republic was commited with legally owned weapons.(moreover, all guns are "traced" by serial numbers, so there is not much overlap between illegaly possesed guns and legal weapons)
- and I do hope that NRA manages to convince people that the problem is not in guns, but in people.

Blue Americans would be known in Europe for their sheeplike acquiesence to government control of all kinds... except that Europeans are just blue Americans with higher taxes (Andorrans and Liechtensteinians excepted, of course). Americans have no monopoly on stupidity.

Tax rate... last time I heard they day of "tax freedom" (the day in the year when you start earning money for yourself) was in the second half of june. But that takes not only income taxes into account, but also health and social insurance.

Corporate income tax is 31%, income tax of real people range from 12% for poor people to 38% or something like that.

More taxes are paid.. but the health care is not private, and you don't pay tuition while studying at a university..

Maybe some other countries are known for being acquiescive to gov't control.. but Czechs and Slovaks are extremely mistrustful of gov't and not exactly acquiescive.

I have never read a more finely written masterpeice of leftist/Democrat/socialist bitterness, hatred and tantrum behavior. We should all think twice - or thrice - before agreeing to allow people who are filled with such rage, hatred and immaturity wield power of any sort, especially power over other people.

I have sometimes thought that "blue" state succession might not be such a bad idea. But what of the conservatives who have the misfortune of living in a "blue" state? They would become prisoners. There are many people, especially the retired, who could not afford to move to "Free America" in such a scenario. We could not just throw them to the leftist/socialist wolves.
