I have a Heritage Rough Rider 22lr/22mag combo revolver.Nice little gun,but takes some getting use to. It seems to like the Federal Gold 22lr and Winchester SuperX 22mag the best. Whats your favorite plinker and ammo it likes best?

Good morning, makdaddy.

My current favorite (for the last 3 or 4 years) is my Ruger .22 auto w/ whatever round is cheapest by the brick.

For about a dozen years my favorite was my Ruger Super Single-Six w/ either .22 or .22wmr, as the mood dictated. Your Rough Rider ought to be big fun, indeed.

In fact, I feel a little nostalgic... think I'll break out the old Single-Six for a little fun this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration.

I would give a big two thumbs up to the S&W K22 Masterpiece which goes by several model #s like 17, and 617. Truly masterpieces.

In the auto pistol realm I had a Benelli and foolishly traded it away. Superb target pistol. I also am a big believer in the Jonathan Arthur Ciener conversion kits for changing 45 Autos to 22 LR. Mine works superbly on my Gold Cup, has fixed sights, and is laser pointer accurate.

Someday I would like to get the Colt Service Model Ace 22 just for the heck of it.

Favorite .22 revolver, Dan Wesson Model 22.
I have the 4 and 8 inch barrels for mine. The 4 inch definately has better balance, but the 8 inch has a really long sight radius. Just like everything else there's always a trade off.
As to ammo, the DW really doesn't seem to have any preference. I've shot a lot of the bulk Remington out of it with good results. CCI Mini-Mags work pretty well too.

Ruger MKII Slabside with just about any ammo but likes federals best.
Ruger Single six 22 mag love to shoot it but it sucks accuracy with just about anything I have put in it.

As revolvers go, I have a Taurus mod 94 that has seen many many many rounds. It's not a favorite, but it is well liked. I've shot the target 617 10-shot and that's a nice revo...maybe someday, I'll have one. But my current fav 22lr is my MkII Comp Target.

K-22, naturally...I alternate betwen my mid-70's pinned-and-recessed six-incher and my early-90's full-lugged six-incher...both are tackdrivers!!!....mikey357

As far as I'm concerned, High Standards are the best .22s.

A Single-Six Convertible I bought in 1972 - the fixed sight, 5.5-inch version.

It still has the original factory 2-pound trigger pull. Okay, okay, it's precisely, as previously reported, 2 pounds and 7/10ths of an ounce on a Lyman gauge.

I have a S&W model 43 airweight 3.5" barrel adjustible sights, made in 1973, very acurate.

My taurus 94 9 shot 4" is also a tack driver, with a great trigger.

My very favorite .22lr is my S&W model 41 target pistol 5.5 bull barrel.

Hey Standing Wolf,

What kind of grips do you have on your Supermatic Trophy? They are beautiful.

The favorite is a Smith 41 I've had for 40 years. Next is a Ruger 22/45 with a Clark barrel and trigger job.

I've tried several .22 revolvers including a Single six, Smith 617 and a Smith Kit Gun. Ended up trading them off. It seems that I'm just not tuned in to .22 revolvers.

My favorite all time .22 handgun is my S&W Model 18.
I bought it used for $85 about 25 years ago. It's very accurate and a beautiful looking firearm.

I have a Ruger MKII with over 300K rounds through it. Aside from several new firing pins and springs, it's still trucking along. It shoots fine until you put around 1000 rounds through it in a sitting, then you need to brush off the feed ramp. Or so I've heard ;)

is my 1940 Colt Officers Target revolver. It's acurate and has a great DA and SA trigger pull.
