Would a SAIGA-12 make a good woterfowl gun? I know you could plug the mags to two and 1 in the chamber for the migratory restriction. What about steel shot? Are they 3" chambers? has anyone hunted with one in bad weather/water?

I had one and sold it before the season opened.

Could you take birds with it...? Sure. But, it isn’t exactly meant for that. Ill give you 2 reasons right off the top....

A. Short barrel.

B. You have to take you shooting hand off of the trigger to disengage the safety. So see bird, move both hands to un-safety, move hands back to shooting position while shouldering gun, shoot birds.

Have you shot clays with it yet? Are you consistently hitting clays..?

Unless you had a lot of extra mags with you,it would be a pain to reload as well. You would have to shoulder the gun, load the mag, then get back to being ready to shoot. A Remington 870 costs about the same and would serve you much better IMO.

realy and truly I want a Nova for ducks. I just threw this question out there to see if any waterfowlers were trying any unorthadox shotguns for birds. I took my Beretta last year and was always afraid of the water with the wood stock on my $800 (also my first) shotgun. A buddy had a nova and the synthetic and coated gun is a real stress reliever.

The Nova is a good gun and should serve you well. With regards to your comment about the Beretta, I wouldn't carry a gun duck hunting that I wouldn't mind using for an oar!
