Gunsight Curse

I am cursed by having my sights come flipping off my autos.

The first was a CZ52 that I had Makarov.com install a set of Novak's on. After about 20 rounds, I noticed the front sight picture had changed. The front sight had come off and landed somewhere into dirt - never to be found. To the credit of Makarov.com, they replaced the front sight quickly, for free, and it has not been a problem ever since.

The second time was with my Kimber and new 24/7 sights from XS. Again, my sight picture changed but instead of it being the front sight - the rear had come loose and drifted almost completely out of the groove. This one, I fixed myself with some loctite and increased tension on the set screws (been fine ever since as well).

Number 3 is what has me convinced that I am cursed. Custom built 1911 with Millet sights installed by ROBAR. After approx. 100 rounds, the front sight comes off and lands on my head and falls at my feet for an easy recovery :what: :banghead: :cuss: .

All three guns were handled, and sights installed, by different smiths. Am I truly cursed or is this fairly common to the rest of you as well? Do you have any other curses?

The front of my JP Custom Double-Ring sights on my Glock 24P would come loose until I slotted the bolt for a spanner and cranked it down good. Never been a problem since. Installed them myself so no smith to blame ;)

My 10/22 front sight came loose at some point. Most likely from abuse. It had a scope so I never much cared. Sold it to my brother. Now it has a new barrel so no loss.

Other than that I've been good.

yes, your guns are cursed. IMMEDIATELY send all of your guns to me so I can exerc... I mean have them exorcised.

I will need a young priest and an old priest....... (rimshot)

RW...you beat me to it! I'll come help excerise them...you did mean "range trip" didn't you? I mean ...we've got to see if its the guns or Steelhead involved with this curse. I'll admit I'm not a priest and I don't play one on TV, but I will put on the collar if it'll help. :D
Mark.

If you switch to revolvers, you won't have that problem. The sights don't go flying around with every shot! :neener:

Yooper, you speak the truth. I put a XS big dot on my 640 and it has stayed on without any problems.

I've had two guns with sight issues, my Springfield 1911, the rear sight came loose and started drifting over, loctite fixed that. And my Beretta Neos rear sight screw disappeared, got a new one from Beretta quickly, need to center it and then add something to keep it stuck.

I've had the front sight drift out of its dovetail on my SIG P210-6. An application of calipers yielded the same 5mm sight base as its brethren in my spare parts kit. Blue Locktite failed to fix the problem. SIGARMS claims to have tightened the slide cut, at no charge to me. I'll report on the outcome later on this week.

One time was shooting a IDPA match with a Browning High Power I had purchased used. Drew the gun and some how the front sight had Broken off. All that was where the front sight should be was a jagged piece of metal. I sorta sucked after that....hmmm....maybe I should break all my front sights during matches. "See guys I CAN shoot better if I had a front sight, honest"
