Hunting wasn't as good as I had hoped. Went out with a party of twelve, hunted from sunup until about 4:00 pm. We got a total of 7 birds. Didn't really see many more than that even though we were hunting what should have been some pretty prime ground; cut milo & cornfields.
I drew fist blood, took one while blocking at the end of a CRP grass field. That was my only one for the day. Should have had at least one more and doubled up on another, bird went to the first guy to hit it.
In our party were three youngsters including a 16 year old girl. I complemented their Dads on the kids gun handling and safety awareness. All-in-all it was a good time. Found out I'm kinda out of shape, legs were aching last night when I got home!
Side note: Spotted a pair of atelope! Very rare to see these around here, the N.W. corner of the state has a fair population of them but it's not something you normally spot in this end of the state.

Glad to hear that you got a bird Sisco.Me and my 10 year old pointer found a small covey of quail at the neighbors farm and chased singles for awhile. The dog pointed well and I shot poorly. At least she got into some birds.Quail here in NE KS are acting more like grouse these days. They tend to stay in the thick brush to keep away from all the hawks.Have a good season.Best rgds,Paul
