Hi. On the way home from work today I stopped into see if my local gun shop had anything I could spend my holiday pay on. One thing that caught my eye, mainly because of the price, was a Dan Wesson Model 14 revolver. The asking price on it was $185 dollars.

I've done some research around here, and it seems that Dan Wesson revolvers are fairly well respected. I didn't have Mr. March's check-list in my pocket, but the gun itself seemed to be in good shape. The only visual problem with the gun is some joker had knocked the rear sight off so he could mount a BSA red dot on it.

So...if I go back with Mr. March's list, and the gun seems nice, is it worth buying for $185, and then going through the work to get a new rear sight mounted on it?

I personally would pass and look for a Model 15. The Model 14 may become a little difficult finding the rear sight assembly.

I agree with the post above. DW's are so cheap, why buy one and then have to send it out for smithing. My 15-2 was only $285 or thereabouts and it came with 2 different barrels and shrouds. If you want to buy it and use it as it, they are very nice. If you want to smith it to an adjustable sight, pass and buy a md 15.

They still have the gun in stock, but i think I'm going to pass on it. I'm not really in the market for a Dan Wesson. It's just that a few months ago I traded a Ruger SP-101 for a CZ-75b, and ever since then, I've had my eyes out for something to fill the .357 hole in my collection.

The Dan Wesson just caught my eye because of the price tag, but I'm not real crazy about red dot's on pistols, so I'll pass for now.

The model 14 does have a funky rear sight and I don't think the the "pork chop" barrel shrouds or external barrel nuts are available. If you want a DW hold out for a model 15 (blue, some old ones were nickel plated) or a 715 (stainless).
