Try http://www.predatormastersforums.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php

It is a forum for all types of varmits and predator type hunting. If you are anywhere in the western half of Montana, let me know. Perhaps we can get together.

Here's an interesting site:

They are the prettiest coyotes I've ever seen, though. The coyotes around here look a bit more haggard.

One of my neighbors shot a coyote yesterday (this morning was the first time I saw it, so I assume it was yesterday) and hung it on the bob wire fence a few hundred yards down the road from my house. He seems to have a macabre sense of humor and a flair for taxidermy as he has posed it so it looks like it is standing on it's hind legs and snarling like one of those posed bears in a museum exibit. I wish I had taken a picture now, it's kind of funny.

We've had some lengthy threads about coyote hunting, both here and at The Firing Line. Try a search. Some variant of "coyote hunting + Art Eatman", maybe...

I don't pretend to be some sort of guru expert, but I've done a fair amount of calling...

Those Canadian 'yotes are a little better looking. I go up near the border and try to call them over. Once over, and with no visa, I feel it is my civic duty to punish them. Most severely.

There is a ton of good advice over at the predatormasters forum mentioned above.

I'm going in two weeks. The rancher that let me hunt deer on his property this year asked me if I would come back and shoot some coyotes. Well yeah!!

His place is thick with them. I saw 7 or 8 without really looking for them. They are wiley critters. I have over 5000 acres to play on.

The trick is to get them to come to you by using a caller. You can get a mouth caller or make one. Last week I went and put together the e caller that is described on predatormasters. With a used cassette player I got it done for under $60 including one stewart tape.

If you can get to a place where you can move around a bit that is better. Once they discover you the game is up and you have to move to another spot. Most people I have talked to set up, call and either get one or move to another spot 20 to 30 minutes later.

Learning what their barks and yips signify is interesting. Learning what attracts them where you are is also something you have to learn. Sometimes a distressed rabbit call works, in Jan and Feb when they have pups a bark from a challenging yote will sometimes bring a male to you.

I'm going to try shooting one with my AR.

Let us know how you do.

Ohio may soon have a $50 bounty on coyotes. You folks in Ohio may soon have a fairly lucrative hobby. And think about this. No honey, I don't really want this rifle, but I have to buy it so I can make a few thousand. It's an investment.
