Sold my Taurus 94 last week (good riddance!) and I am in the market for a 617. Do they all have target triggers and hammers and adj. sights. After the horrible trigger on the Taurus I am looking for something smooth, what is the chance the 617 will come with smooth, sweet trigger and how much does S&W charge for an action job.

In terms of accuracy would I be better off with an older k22?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

I must be stupid this is in the wrong forum

I was in the market for a 617 towards the end of last year...the price has me in limbo
Anyway, back on point...I have only seen on 617. It was a 10-shot target model w/ the hammer, trigger and asjustable sights as mentioned. The trigger was a little on the heavy side for a target gun, but still smooth & very managable, especially vs. my Taurus 94.
PS...I've kept my 94 strictly for DA practice. After a few hundred rounds through it, ALL my other triggers feel custom ;)

It is possible to replace the trigger rebound spring with a Wolff of lighter weight w/o too much trouble. Mainspring needs to be full power to ensure ignition.

I have a 6" 6-shot that has a nice 2 1/2 SA and 9-10lb DA pull with minimal polishing and a lighter rebound spring. Wasn't that bad to begin with, though.

Target trigger and hammer standard on that length barrel.

Yes.

Keep your eyes open for an older pinned Model 17. It took me close to three years of searching local dealers and gun show's to find one, but I finally lucked into a pair of them. I had, and traded off, a newer 10 shot Model 617 which was a real stinker. IMNSHO, it should never have left the factory. Horrible creepy rough trigger, bore so rough it would only fire a few rounds before they started to tumble, light hammer strike w/would misfire ~50% of the time. I could have lived w/all those defects an sent it back to Smith except for the other "defects" they couldn't do anything about. The 10 shot cylinder/round butt frame.:barf: (<--personal preference only). I wanted something to compliment my 6 shot/square frame K frames, and after shooting the 617 the very first time, I realized what a horrible mistake I made.
