What's new?

I've read all the discussions and debates on the features of the different makes of handguns. Most are simply a matter of opinion and comfort and vary greatly between posters.

So my question is this: What are the next innovative advancements in handgun technology?

Some designs are tried and proven and will always be there (1911, Glocks).
Do you see (or want to see) anything significant on the horizon? Electronic firing, new propellents, new metals used...? We're speaking, of course, of the civilian market only.

Ever think that this is as good as it gets? What else can possibly be done? Will today's Glock be produced 20 years from now?

Might be fun to speculate.
