Browning ending the Hi-Power

I was in a local gunshop today and was told that Browning was going to stop making the Hi-Powers all together. Can this be confirmed or denied by anyone here?

I have not seen or heard anything about it.
Either the salesman was trying to stampede you into buying right now or he did not know what he was talking about.
SIG has tried to discontinue the P210 several times but the sales are still there at ridiculous prices. Like the BHP, nobody likes them except shooters.

Didn't make them to begin with. They'll just stop putting their name on somebody else's product. Now that FN is in the US, they have serious competition. The only gun I'll be sorry to see go is the HP Practical. I just love the looks of that gun, but the cheapest I've seen new ones for has been $600. They're nice, but not that nice.

I havent been notified about Browning stopping HP production
They'll just stop putting their name on somebody else's product
Most of Browning Products are outsourced either to a parent company or sub contractor...its alawys been that way,......

That rumor circulated a few years ago and was not true then and is not true now.
It's amazing that gun dealers, who SHOULD know a lot about firearms, are often guilty of some of the worst misinformation and/or ignorance about guns...

FN has always made the BHP. The HP's are made in Belgium though, not at FNMI in S.Carolina. FN owns Browning through the Herstal group anyway. I wonder how long FN has owned/controlled Browning? My dad has a lever action Browning .22lr rifle that was made in Japan.
Is FN moving production to of the HP to FNMI or will they still be made in Liege, Belgium? One thing I'd be happy to see more of is the compact Hi-Powers. I'd even think about buying one if they weren't so overpriced...especially when compared to the compact CZ's.

Maybe Wild can chime in here again, if I am not correct. But wasn't Browning (the American company) just the importer of the High Power, anyway??
I always thought that the "true" HP was made in Belgum??

For a long time High Power parts were made in Belgium then assembled into guns in Portugal. I think it was a way around taxes and maybe labor cost as well.

FNMI was the importer for a while. Now it is FNH USA. FNMI will not be manufacturing the Hi Power in SC.

FWIW I received my new Browning Master catalog in the mail today. On pages 57, 58 and 61 (the Custom Shop page) you can see proof Browning still SELLS HP's.
Reports of its' demise are greatly exaggerated.

Rabbit.

There has been a rumor going around lately that Browning is going to stop putting their names on the guns and that they'll all be marked FN from now on. You hear those rumors about every couple years though so who knows.

I would consider going in on a group deal for another Practical, in 9mm this time, depending on price. :D
