I have handled several but shot none.

I am not a recoil wimp but that little CAR stock has got to hurt with a big ole' 3 inch high brass round. Maybe the porting tames this but I whince thinking about it.

Other than that they are all smooth as silk, look very cool and I really like the sights. I have little hands so the pump release was a little tough for me to reach with my thumb but other than that I would love to try one.

Sheslinger loves them.

waste of money. It's a winchester defender with tactical toys. I love my winchester defender by the way, but i paid $280 for it, and an ar15 stock, pistol grip, rail and ghost rings isn't worth the $400 difference.

Just got back from a decent gunshow, and seen quite a few, and after talking to the guys I believe you have a point. You could likely put the toys on for under what they ask, escpecially if you have the time to get the DOODADADS, and have "TINCKERITIS", as my father would have said.................

the only advantage to the AR stock and pistol grip is so police, trained with the AR, have a similar feel on their shotguns. At least, that's what they claim.

I know a lot of cops won't reach for the shotgun because they are uncomfortable with the recoil, and an CAR stock isn't going to help that.

IMHO there is no problem with the regular stock on the defender. There is no problem with the lack of rail or the standard tru-glo bead sight. I can place slugs with precision using the bead sight out to any distance i'd want to use a shotgun.

45r reports that recoil with his 870 with an ar stock on it is lower than you'd think.

I LOVE the Recoil, when I was a kid my Father had a DBLE SG, I loved to shoot that thing off my hip- Both Barrels :) , I don't care for recoil at the shoulder though, found that out at CMP matches , my shoulder would have bruises for days "espec since its had umteen injections, But the SG is a different Beast- "IMHO- you know its gonna BITE- but thats the difference between enjoyement and a JOB. I kinda like the power- Friend let me shoot a, I think 460 weatherbee<sorry if I mispelled it, I don't own one but UUUUYYAAA, I loved that KICK :D , something about the power of it..............

I believe though when your on the job, getting faster sight aquisition is "to say the least very important different than just range shooting", so I could see from that point what they mean. ;)

Actually, there are a number of advantages to this set-up.

First is the pistol grip. For tactical applications, a pistol grip makes the gun much easier to use, to keep close to the body while moving, to bring up to aim.

Next is the stock. Every LEO - and I mean EVERY one * - we have talked to has complained that factory stock length of pull is too long for tactical applications with normal sized operators - and this is not even taking body armor into account. Throw smaller or female operators into the mix and the factory stocks are clearly inadequate. An adjustable stock may not necessarily be the answer (when really just a shorter stock would do the trick), but it is certainly an improvement on what the factory offers.

Once you start thinking about body armor and handling weapons inside vehicles, the collapsible stock starts to make even more sense.

As for optics, more and more LEOs are looking seriously at optics for special units. You just can't beat the speed of target acquisition.

The shifting from AR-15 to shotgun angle is not so important. We thought it would be when we started making an AR stock adapter, but having shown our product to hunderds of LEOs, most of them are very enthusiastic about the pistol grip combined with collapsible stock, but most couldn't care less whether it was like an AR-15. In fact, LEO input is what has us working on a lower cheek weld version of our adapter that resembles an AR-15 even less. They simply want that pistol grip and collapsible stock.

The only important reason we are compatible with AR-15 gear is because there is so much of it available. It makes a lot more sense than trying to develop proprietary stock and grip combinations.

* This is the cue for the first dissenting LEO voice to make himself heard in this thread. ;)

To echo what Mesa Tactical said, I think there is one more advantage to the pistol grip stock- I have a 590A1 with a Speedfeed IV-S shortened tactical stock and I find I can control the weapon better, especially in tactical reload mode when I keep the 590 up and am loading from the sidesaddle with my off hand. I also shoot an AR-15, so I "may" be biased, but I honestly thought I was going to drop an 870 I was shooting the other night. I just never really felt comfortable trying to control the 870 with one hand and no pistol grip. I loaned the lady who was shooting the 870 and she liked the shorter stock and pistol grip.
