Removing ambidextrous safety on a .45 auto clone

I've got a Charles Daly (hey, it’s worked GREAT for me) Commander size .45 that needs a total cleaning. I can't figure out how to get the ambidextrous safety off. My other Government Model has the standard safety, and that's no problem, but I don't want to go pulling and twisting without knowing how to remove it.

Likely a tongue and grove setup. After removing the grips, mainspring, sear, etc, use a hide mallet to tap the left side of the safety. thisw should loosen up the right side after a bit of careful effort. Safety should be in the on position incase the sear pin is groved and has not been removed yet.
Be patient :uhoh:

The technical term for the method used to remove the right side of an ambi safety is "wiggling".

I believe there is some colorful language that is essential to the whole experience also.

If it's got the curved arm that fits under the right-side grip panel...use a feeler gauge blade to slip under the safety and lightly pry it up. When you get enough clearance, slip a butter knife under it and worry it off.
If it's a Mueshke type with a long, slotted sear pin that captures the right side of the safety, you have to remove the left side first so the right side will rotate upward past the pin.
Luck!

One can save a considerable amount of aggravation, language and trouble by:
1. Removing the safety.
2. Replacing it with a standard safety. If you are right-handed (with the safety on the left side) you really don’t need the gadget kind.
(Old Fuff has retreated to his cave to get flame suit) ...  :D
