I have a Colt National Match Gold Cup that was passed on to me from my dad. It was manufactured in 1968 and the odd thing is...The blue finish on the slide looks slightly purple now! Can anyone tell me what caused this delima?
Thanks

Old bluing. No big deal.

Quite often blued carbon steel will turn a plum color as it ages. It has something to do with the composition of the steel alloy and the blueing salts. There is nothing wrong with your gun.

Nothing to be concerned about.I've seen many older guns with a plum color bluing.I have a older NIB Unfired Ruger M-77V 25-06 with the tang safety that has a plum colored receiver.I like it myself, adds a little character to it.

I have a Colt's Combat Commander that has completely turned a soft purple. It looks very good and I wouldn't dream of having it reblued.

I've seen some like that, that look preferable to the bluing of today. Not a problem!

I want to thank everyone here for all the info. I did not know that the blue-ing did that over time.
